Yeah but that's the government's job to provide them and maybe fund them too. SO I still don't see why should we cancel resorts projects from where our economy benefit for something magical to happen inorder to get low income housing.
One thing you should know is that investors are looking for profit. low income housing wont profit them as much as touristic resorts. So naturally they wont go for low income projects unless the government do something about it. Your best bet isn't investors from outside but local companies. Companies like, Mobinil, Etisalat Misr, Vodafone Egypt, Orascom, Telecom Egypt and many more. These companies are run by Egyptians and they are they know what Egypt really needs. If the government did a proper urban planning for slums and invited these companies to fund or sponsor I highly doubt they'd dismiss the request. and I'm not just listen random companies up there I know that each one has at least did the same thing before. Some sponsor new Egyptian business and some even build low income housing and fund them for example .... http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1272717 Quote:

First of all, low income housing that you see in developed economies isnt affordable in Egypt. The slums that are now present are what's affordable. That's the sad reality of the situation. Secondly, I most certainly did not put any words in your mouth. You said "I'm not looking from an economic point of view, I'm talking about how it would benefit the Egyptian society." Therfore, according to your quote, the economic point of view is of no relation to the benefit of Egyptian society, when in fact, it is the only thing that matters. The rest comes along with economic development naturally.

Okay, let's ignore the slums for a while, there are plenty of engaged couples in Egypt who are postponing their weddings because they can't find houses in the L.E. 100,000-200,000 price range. There's bigger demand for low-income houses and such a project would benefit the Egyptian society a lot more.
I never denied that social development and economic development are tied to each other, I just said that we should ignore the economic part for now and focus on how it would benefit society. Anyway, I really don't see where this discussion is going and to be honest I really don't care that much, it's not like it's going to change.
