I disagree with this one. I don't believe that old buildings should have their facade modernized when they're renovated. It's just a big slap in the face to the architect who designed the building. It's lake taking an old car and making it look like a modern sports car. Fill the cracks, wash off the mold, even up the surface? Sure. Plaster the wall with a shiny glass curtain? Hell no.

I meant that brutalist buildings should be cleaned to look new every once in a while, otherwise they can look quite depressing.

The old, depressing look is part of what gives these kind of buildings their character.
I suppose in this case it's fine, since this apparently just used be a bunker, but I wouldn't want this sort of thing to happen to every brutalist building.

I have to strongly disagree with that...as someone who isn't a big fan of brutalism(though I appreciate some of its merits), I recently found that such buildings are a lot more tolerable in dry climates where they never get that run-down, grotty look that they usually have in places with more rain. If they were renewed and maintained as above I think a lot of the hate for them from the public would disappear.

Remember, the old classic buildings that everyone loves nowadays were also once considered dirty and unfixable, ripe to be pulled down and replaced in many cases with some of the examples in this thread. Then they were cleaned up, renovated, and given a new lick of paint and suddenly they're historical beauties that must be preserved. I think the same would happen to brutalist architecture if it was given the same treatment(and fortunately that seems to be the case in an increasing amount of places around the world).

If there was some way to waterproof their exteriors and make them more suited to wetter climates, even better.

I'm fine with that, but I don't believe that the architecture of buildings themselves should be changed to fit "modern standards" (i.e. adding unecessary windows, painting in other colors that what it was originally)
