Looks like a brilliant city, God I love Italy.

Is it a lively city, too? I can't say I've heard of the things happening there, except the football. If I were to visit Genoa, is there anything important to know? Like, some festival or other event to time the trip accordingly?

Genoa suffers for be a Italian. I mean Genoa is a wonderful city, rich of history and culture, but commonly isn't mentioned in the touristic guides (when we learn about Italy we listen all time, generally, about Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Milan). I wonder if Genoa would be a city of another country... I think this city probably would be one of the most visited touristic landmarks.

Please, don't misunderstand me. I love Genoa, and I'm not talking others Italian cities (Rome, Milan, Naples, Venice, Florence) are better than Liguria's capital.

about this I think there's a structural inefficiency in the whole italian touristic system; there are many places who are not enough known for various reasons.
For example the cities of north west: Turin, Genoa and, in part, Milan (which is famous, but not for his, important, artistic heritage)
probably 'cause they traditionally were best known as industrial cities.

I think that, talking about cities, except for Florence and Venice (which, thanks to their absolutely unique heritage and for their relatively small size, are literally full of tourists)
almost every italian city has much to learn from other countries about how to promote tourism.

Interesting that other cities don't suffer for being Italian: Rome, Florence, Venice etc. I think, it doesn't matter for tourism is to be a part of Italy or any other country.
