Saka isa pa im not defending other countries, its just that people here have a penchant for dissing other races and countries. Remember you can never lift yourself up by putting others down.
Better to admit the not so pleasant things rather than sugarcoating things but as non-Filipinos come, what they see is the opposite of the PR.

Ayala, Rustan’s plan dep’t store chain
Ayala Land Inc. will soon debut into the department store retailing format in partnership with the Rustan’s group by investing in the anchor tenant of a new Ayala shopping center rising in Fairview, Quezon City.
This will implement an earlier announced equal joint venture with the Tantoco family’s Specialty Investments Inc. (SII) to “pursue opportunities in the Philippine retail sector.”
ALI and Rustan’s are likewise investing in the 24-hour convenience store business under Japanese retailing chain FamilyMart, the world’s second-largest convenience store operator.
Although a late entrant in the high-volume but low-margin retailing business in department store and convenience store businesses, ALI is confident that having Rustan’s as a partner would create a “formidable” alliance that could effectively compete in this segment, said ALI chief finance officer Jaime Ysmael.
In a talk with reporters at the sidelines of the Securities and Exchange Commission hearing on foreign capital computation, Ysmael said ALI was now developing a new mall—Fairview Terraces—whose anchor tenant would be a department store co-owned by the Ayala-Rustan’s partnership. Typically, he said the anchor tenants in Ayala’s shopping centers would occupy about 10,000 square meters of retail space like Landmark (in Glorietta and Trinoma) or Gaisano (in Market!Market!).
“We haven’t come up with the name yet,’ Ysmael said, when asked what would be the branding for the upcoming Ayala-Rustan’s department stores. “Close to opening, that should be available,” he said. Parkview Terraces is expected to open by the end of next year.
This would not mean that ALI would no longer provide retail space to other department store operators in other upcoming malls, Ysmael said. “We will still have that kind of relationship with existing partners. It’s just that we want to put up our own so that we can move faster than that we’ll be able to do if we don’t have our own department stores. But those (other) stores will continue. They are longtime partners,” he said.
Ysmael said Rustan’s, apart from being the dominant retailer for the high-end segment, had a vast experience in the broader consumer market through its Shopwise grocery chain. “We’re confident that the partnership will be able to compete,” he said.
For the convenience store business, which is in partnership with FamilyMart and Japanese conglomerate Itochu, Ysmael said this should also be a “formidable” retail format.
The partnership is investing about P200 million to jumpstart the business. While the initial target is to set up 30 stores in the first year of operations, Ysmael said it should roll out “a couple of hundred stores to be able to make a difference.” As Ayala has hundreds of property developments across the country, Ysmael said the rollout should not be a problem.
“We’re positioning also in other areas, not just in our developments, but the priority is to locate in our developments,” he said.
ALI does not expect the fledgling retailing business to make a significant revenue contribution immediately, cognizant that a critical mass is needed. “We’re hoping that side of the business will move up but not right away,” he said.—Doris C. Dumlao

What NOT to buy in Divisoria
BY CAI ORDINARIO Posted on 11/10/2012 10:09 AM | Updated 11/11/2012 10:16 AM

Quote:

GOING SHOPPING? Read this first. Screen grab from YouTube (watchWEDTV)

Filipinos are natural bargain hunters, whether we belong to the upper, middle or lower income class.

Let's admit it: we're always on the lookout for what's affordable.

That's why it's impossible to talk about shopping in the Philippines without mentioning Divisoria, the "shopping mecca" at the heart of Manila.

Divisoria makes us brave crowds and endure long walks carrying shopping bags that are close to bursting and still have enough energy to haggle.

For Filipinos, this is retail therapy at its finest [and cheapest].

But in order to enjoy shopping in Divisoria and truly getting your money's worth, we have listed dont's that we think you should take note of — before you step out and head to bargain shopping wonderland:

1) Don't buy processed foods like candies.

Most of the candies sold in Divisoria are imported, but you don't know whether these food items have been cleared by the authorities as safe for consumption.

2) Don't buy toys for small children, especially for babies who are teething.

There have been reports that some toys sold in Divisoria contain lead.

So buying toys, especially for toddlers, are a big no-no because they tend to "eat" their toys.

3) Don't buy appliances.

This is for the simple reason that they don't come with a warranty and, therefore, you are not assured that it will work or that it will work properly.

This is the same argument when buying Christmas lights.

These usually do not carry authentic Import Commodity Clearance Sticker which means a product has been tested and cleared by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

4) Don't buy gadgets.

There are a lot of fake gadgets out there and you risk wasting your hard-earned money. Especially for phones, those sold in Divisoria often do not carry the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) seal.

All phones in the Philippines must carry this seal since the NTC is tasked to approve all communication devices sold in the country.

5) Don't buy perfume and cosmetics.

This is because most of these perfumes and cosmetics are fake and you never know what kind of ingredients are in them.

These ingredients may be harmful to you or cause unwanted skin irritations.

If you can't remember this list, the rule of thumb is:

Never buy anything you ingest or have to put on your skin.

These products sold in Divisoria must immediately become suspect.
Read more here for the list of what is safe to buy in Divisoria...

Lazada Philippines to use AB Kinnevik’s investments to expand market, product selection

The Philippines is high on the priority list of online store Lazada when it comes to Swedish financial company AB Kinnevik’s $40-million investment in the retailer.

“The new funding will be used to fuel Lazada’s growth across the five countries [Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam],” Lazada Philippines marketing brand officer Kyla Ortigas told GMA News Online.

“Given the large market of the Philippines, our country will be given high priority in terms of fund allocation.

On Tuesday, Southeast Asia’s online department store revealed AB Kinnevik’s $40 million placement in its German holding company following a similar investment by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The investment will fund Lazada’s product and market diversification, regional CEO Maximilian Bittner said in an e-mailed statement.

“In addition to capital, [Kinnevik] will provide us with invaluable strategic insight (into) operating in such markets,” Bittner added.

“The bulk of the funding will be used to build our product selection,” Ortigas noted in a separate e-mail message on Thursday.

“This will help us add hundreds of products every day, which will give our customers more options and encourage them to visit and purchase from our site every day,” Ortigas added.

In terms of market share within the group, she said Lazada Philippines is one of the leading countries in the region.

“For us to establish credibility with our customers is the key and we are excited about our partnerships with all the major banks and payment institutions that help us provide a safe shopping environment,” Ortigas noted.

In return, Lazada carries products made in the Philippines, particularly mobile phones, home and living items, fashion and home appliances.

“We see it as our strict responsibility to contribute positively to the economy and the environment of the Philippines and sourcing locally produced items is an integral part of this strategy. We meet new suppliers and manufacturers every day to ensure that we continue to provide locally produced products,” Ortigas added.

Lazada Philippines plans to expand its product selection and use part of Kinnevik’s resources on regional marketing.

The company said it was well received by online shoppers in Manila, Cebu, and Davao, prompting the Philippine unit to are cities outside Metro Manila.

It is also targeting overseas Filipinos who send items and gifts to their family in the Philippines. —

Its been there since the 60s, halo halo din nila approve. But admit it or not, divisoria offers the best variety of goods come Christmas season for giveaways. Things that will look expensive in hi end shopping malls are everywhere in divisoria if only you have the patience enough to rummage through the heap.

American Eagle Now in Philippines
by Zacks Equity Research
September 07, 2012 | Comments : 0 Recommended this article: (0)
ANF | AEO | GPS

The international expansion plans of leading fashion retailer, American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (AEO - Analyst Report), continue to gain pace as it takes another step forward towards growing internationally, after making its presence felt in Israel, Japan and the Middle East. The company now targets to capture the strong and promising Philippines market.

Yesterday, American Eagle entered into a multi-year retail license agreement with the Suyen Corporation, a retailer and franchisee that has a large customer base and operates numerous stores for various brands in Philippines. Suyen has about 744 variety stores as well as 126 franchised stores in the country.

Per the deal, Suyen will open both American Eagle stores as well as Aerie shops within existing stores throughout the country. The company expects to inaugurate its first Philippines store in spring 2013.

American Eagle envisions immense potential for business expansion in Philippines, given its growing economy and the demand for popular fashion and American brands among Filipino customers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah thats right AE or American Eagle outfitters will soon open its first store in the philippines. First store would be at the former dimension shop at bonifacio high street. I already saw the big banner of american eagle. Btw american eagle franchise was bought by SUYEN, same company as bench clothing

Puregold to buy operator of Eunilane, Grocer E
Quote:
MANILA – The competition between the country’s two biggest retailers is heating up with Puregold Price Club set to acquire the owner and operator of the Eunilaine food mart and Grocer E supermarket.

Puregold's acquisition of the retailer came on the heels of the SM group's announcement last week that its subsidiaries SM Retail Inc and SM Prime Holdings Inc have entered into a joint venture agreement with the Waltermart Group.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Puregold said its executive committee approved on Monday the acquisition of up to 100 percent of Company E Corp through the purchase of shares from its stockholders.

Puregold is better that SM. It carries more local products compared to SM which is bring in more Chinese or imported overpriced products.

No local value added just plain sucking the life out of the community.

Look what happened to Makro, bring more imported goods than local goods. Not providing jobs to the community.

Local MSME wake up! Bring your business to world standard to survive and not eaten alive by malls.
