It's also worth pointing out Juve's €11.6m match day income figure looks like it's from their last year in the Olympico in Turin. To put it into perspective they made €1.5m from their Champions League game earlier in the week in the Juventus area, despite a strike by the Ultra resulting in just 30,000 fans turning up, by far their worst crowd of the year.
Let me guess, the "Ultras" were pissed because they no longer have free reign in the new stadium? The sooner Juve (and all other Italian clubs) kills the power of those losers, the better.

Haha as if it was the Ultras. The seats were sparse all around the stadium. Clubs don't have 11,000 Ultras. Im guessing CL ticket prices + Shaktar Donetsk contributed to the attendance just as much as any strike.

Juve have had a lot of trouble with companies buying up tickets then reselling them at marked up prices, often lumped in with flights, hotels etc. It looks like these companies bought a larger than usual share and coupled with the raised ticket prices and the Ultra striking you ended up with 10,000 empty seats all around the ground. Typical of the Ultra to try and take credit though...

It's a minor point but quite a few clubs in Italy have at least 11,000 Ultra of some description or another. Take Lazio for example. The bulk is made up of 5,000 or so UltraS - the Irriducibili, who are a right wing group that happen to support Lazio and use the club to air their views. The rest of the Curva is made up of smaller UltraS groups who mimic the Irriducibili as well as normal Ultra groups who are passionate fans and nothing more. Strikes lead by the Irriducibili have lead to the Curva being deserted for the first 15 mins, half etc of a game before 12k or so pile in and fill it. Closer to the story above, Juve's Drughi had 10,000 members at their peak in the 90's.

As you said, a full Ultra strike would have left a huge empty section rather than scattered patches throughout the ground.

Brescia have built a temporary stand behind the goal to bring the ultra a bit closer to the game, it's so awful you really have to see it, words don't do it justice - http://milombardia.gazzetta.it/milan...25989823.shtml

In other news Napoli have been fined €150k due to the San Paolo not being up to Europa League standards (not sure how as they were in the Champions League last season...) and up to 12 sections could be closed for their next game.

Having been to the San Paolo I can confirm it is (apologies for the language) an utter sh*thole. it's falling to bits and the facilities are dreadful. It's a real shame because Napoli have amazing fans who in a modern stadium would create an atmosphere as good as any you get in Germany or elsewhere.

Another major uphill battle to get a new stadium built in Italy by the sounds of it:

Quote:
Roma dealt blow in new stadium plans

Just days after Roma president, James Pallotta, confirmed plans to construct a new stadium by 2016, Senator Raffaele Ranucci spoke to the media Saturday, slamming the project in favour of other municipal goals.

“The problem is this,” said Ranucci, “Juventus built theirs without taking the law into consideration, and Udinese are doing the same thing.”

“The law doesn’t speak only of the stadium, but also of the surrounding covered structures which are necessary… like centres for other kinds of sports.”

“The building sites should be designated for use for forty years, not the ten that are currently allowed for.”

“I think that Rome is not necessarily in need of a new stadium, maybe we need a new structure that will host concerts. The best shows stop in Milan and never make it to Rome.”

“Moreover, why don’t we begin building hospitals or prisons instead? Then, if a club wants to invest like Juventus did, they can without conflicting interests.”

AS Roma currently rents out the Stadio Olimpico, a venue they share with cross-city rivals Lazio. The move to a more intimate 60,000 seat stadium, built without the running track that characterizes the Olimpico, is intended to help the club maximize revenue and attract more people to weekly matches. The new project is rumoured to cost more than €250 million, and would be at least partially funded by the government.

What an imbecil!

One has to look at recent big clubs like Arsenal, Bayern, and Juve and see that these stadiums pay themselves in up to 15, at most 20 years. That's a great return.

Is there any chance of Roma and Lazio working together to fund a new stadium that would be shared?

Seen a couple of things from Torino's chairman Urbano Cairo talking about rebuilding the legendary Stadio Filadelfia. Before anybody gets too excited it's worth pointing out that these plans have cropped up many times over the years and nothing's came of them. Also, the plans have tended to scale down each time they come up, from a full stadium to something like this the team would train at:

As the model and images above show, the tight confines of the site mean it's difficult to see what sort of modern stadium they could build there, especially when you add in the location and issues like the poor access etc:

Sampdoria making progress towards new stadium

Sampdoria are close to getting the green light to construct a new stadium in Genoa, the president of the club has claimed.

Riccardo Garrone has stated his belief that the city council will clear their proposal of plans to build a new venue for the Blucerchiati.

“We have a lot of confidence in the new stadium,” he told the press. “We have carefully put together this proposal.

“The next stage now is to get everything cleared legally. And then once that’s done, we can then go to the city council.

“I am optimistic though, it’s going to be a good structure.”

Sampdoria have shared the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, colloquially known as the Marassi, with heated city rivals Genoa since 1946. The storied ground was originally private property of the Grifone, later passing into public administration during the Second World War.

Hmmm, we'll see. Hope it does happen, though.

Roma will have left the Stadio Olimpico and move into a new stadium by 2016, according to the club’s marketing director.

The Giallorossi, who currently share the Olimpico with city rivals Lazio on the outskirts of the Eternal City, are keen to invest in their own stadium.

Speaking at the International Football Summit in Cologne, marketing director Christoph Winterling said: “We will move fast and Roma will have a new stadium by 2016.”

Last year, the club managed to reach an agreement with city mayor Gianni Alemanno to ensure they could begin planning their new home.

It is believed the new ground will be located in the west of the city and will have a capacity of 55,000.

City mayor Alemanno has said that “it will be a stadium that will fill opponents with fear.”

Part of a wall fell down at Napoli's Stadio San Paolo the other day. This is after the bother they had trying to drag it up to code for the Europa League earlier in the season:

The sooner they move away from or rebuild this dump the better.

Project in place for Lazio to move into new stadium

Lazio have made plans to move to a new stadium with president Claudio Lotito having put forward proposals regarding the project.

Their new home will be known as Eagles Stadium and will have a capacity of 50,000 spectators, according to Calciomercato.

That move could mean the Stadio Olimpico could be left without any tenants with fellow residents Roma also looking to leave and move into their own stadium.

Details released about the new ground so far reveal that the stadium will have a museum “in keeping with the traditions of great clubs to have a space to tell the story of the club and showcase trophies.”

There will also be a series of restaurants of varying prices to suit all of the fans which will also be located inside the new stadium as well as a series of shops and there is also the possibility of installing a cinema.

The idea for the stadium is that it will be a place where Lazio fans go to immerse themselves in the club not only during game days but also at any time.

There is no defined location for the stadium at present although there has been previous speculation that it will be an area on the banks of the river Tiber (like their current home).
