An application has gone in to demolish the OCtagon building on Grove Street. This is a grade 2listed building . It's due to be dealt with in mid Jan so they must be trying to sneak it through in the Xmas period. It's the same outfit who are demolishing the warehouses by the garage in the south docks. I would urge everyone to contact the planning officer to object .This is a fine old building the developers want to replace it with student accommodation!!!...let's save it.

I'm pretty sure it's a conversion. Anyway, to be certain I've contacted the case officer who will be getting back to me.

Checking the planning explorer today, they applied to covert it in June, but have now applied to demolish it. Can anyone confirm it is listed, I can't find it online:

Spoke to the case officer this aftermoon. She told me the application to demolish is for the adjacent flat roofed building(not the building in the pic, I assume it's the one to left ,out of pic) and not the Octagon itself.


However, I would urge others to get confirmation as well. The person to contact is: Nichola Robinson(or Gallagher, newly married) on 0151 233 3021.

The building being demolished is the one to the right. It was Liverpool University Press in the 70s and some kind of community centre more recently.

I was told a flat roofed building, although from what I can see neither adjacent buildings have flat roofs Anyway, thanks to Shamus for highlighting this, we do have to be vigilant.

Just drove past this as it happens, both building have a solid fence around it now, but the adjacent one seems to of had the windows removed now so if its just that one going happy days

Can't quite remember what it was exactly but when I was at University, one of our technology and practice lecturers was investigating some claims that this building was I seem to remember, one of if not the earliest mechanically ventilated or sealed domestic buildings in the country. Never heard more about his findings but if he believed it then there must have been some merit as he was/is a renowned expert on the subject

That's correct. Although little of the original system remains.It was designed by a local doctor(also author of a book called ' Health and Comfort in House Buildings' published in the 1870's) for himself in 1867.
