= Panikian Island =

Panikian Island is located in the southernmost tip of Zamboanga del Sur. This beautiful island is uninhabited by people and is untainted by human hands. Unique rock formations around the beaches and crystal clear waters create a stunning image that can only be described as heavenly. The waters of Panikian Island resemble a large iridescent gem that changes color depending on how the surface is illuminated. It is truly one fascinating sight to behold.

A 45-minute boat ride takes you from the municipality of Pitogo to Panikian Island. Excitement grabs you on your approach as soon as you witness the white sand beach and pristine beach waters. Take your excitement up a notch as soon as you notice the unmistakable feeling of rawness of the island. Dried leaves and branches are scattered on the spotless white sand beaches hinting at the undefiled characteristic of Panikian Island. Your suspicions will be confirmed upon embarking off your boat and observing that there is nothing that will hint human activity of any kind. Instead of cottages, you will have healthy green vegetation not more than a few meters from the edge of the beach for shade from the tropical sun.

Panikian Island is a destination spot for humans as well as different sea creatures. Among the sea creatures that have Panikian Island in there go to destinations are different species of sea turtles. Panikian Island is known for the considerable number of pawikan, the local term for turtles, which swim pleasurably around these waters. If you brought the proper gear with you, the waters surrounding the island are crystal clear to incredible depths and are really great for some snorkeling and scuba diving. If you’re lucky you might even see giant sea turtles swimming around. Their graceful movements almost make them look like they are flying rather than swimming. Panikian Island is a small island and exploring it is quite the adventure. You will be treated to a festival of the most awe-inspiring sights.
