First, there is no need to go through all the Carmel to reach from one central station the the other, there is a bus line which goes, if I remember correctly, every 10 minutes directly between the two stations via the tunnels. The railway tunnel that you suggest is impossible in an engineering point of view. A rail must be up to 3% slope while the tunnels are a lot more than that, especially the eastern tunnels.
The BRT is not all the way next to the heavy rail, and heavy rail stations. The solution of the BRT is mainly for the people from the Krayot and Haifa, and not those of Acco or Nahariya, so the proximity to heavy rail stations is irrelevant. There also going to be 3 lines, which one ends in Hof-Carmel, the second in Bat-Galim and the third in Hadar, so one one of the three goes next to the stations. Changing a bus might take up to 10-15 minutes, but when there are more cars and buses on the road because the public transportation is bad, you reach your destination much later. By the way, a main bus central station is bad for Rambam hospital as well and people who need to get there by ambulance but can't because all the road is full with buses. |
