S G Barve chowk Grade Separator

Looks like construction of the proposed Grade Separator at S G Barve chowk (Modern Cafe) has begun?

Didn't find any such news in papers. But since couple of days, I'm seeing barricades on that road while going towards Shimla office.

PWD Maharashtra is planning for four-laning of Hadapsar-Saswad-Belsar-Phata section of state highway No 64 in Pune District of Maharashtra.

Manaj Tollway, a subsidiary of Man infraconstruction has bagged the contract on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) (toll) basis for a concession period of 25 years including construction period of 3 years.

पुणे-नाशिक रस्ता वाहतुकीसाठी सध्या अपुरा पडत आहे. चाकण औद्योगिक वसाहतीमुळे या रस्त्यावर वाहनांच्या संख्येत लक्षणीय वाढ झाली आहे. पेठ-अवसरी व खेड घाटातही झालेल्या अपघातांमुळे अनेकवेळा वाहतूक बंद पडली आहे. राजगुरुनगर, मंचर, कळंब, नारायणगाव, आळेफाटा गावांतून रस्ता जातो. त्यामुळे वारंवार होणाऱ्या वाहन कोंडीचा फटका प्रवाशांना बसत आहे. रस्त्याच्या कामाची मागणी गेल्या अनेक वर्षांपासून करण्यात आली होती. या मागणीची केंद्र व राज्य सरकारने दखल घेतली आहे. या चौपदरीकरणासाठी 561 हेक्*टर जमीन संपादन करावी लागणार आहे.

Summary:
Land acquisition for the 135km long 4-laning of the Pune Nashik highway between Khed and Sinnar has started from today. Land acquisition is expected to be completed within the next one and half to two months. Actual construction expected to start in June 2013. Cost of 4 laning is 1200 crores for construction and 300 crores for land aquisition. It is to be done on BOT basis. 561 hectare land is to be acquired.

दसऱ्यानंतर पुणे प्रादेशिक परिवहन कार्यालयात दुचाकी वाहनांची नवी मालिका (जेजे) सुरू झाली. दहा हजार क्रमांकाची ही मालिका गेल्या शुक्रवारी संपली. त्यानंतरच्या नव्या मालिकेमधीलही (जीएल) तब्बल साडेसहा हजार क्रमांक सोमवारपर्यंत नोंदले गेले. याचाच अर्थ गेल्या 15 दिवसांत या कार्यालयाने तब्बल 16 हजारांहून अधिक दुचाकी वाहनांची नोंदणी केली. मोटारींबाबतही अशीच परिस्थिती असल्याचे नोंदणी अधिकारी हेमंत गनबोटे यांनी सांगितले. गेल्या तीन दिवसांत नोंदणी झालेल्या सुमारे हजार मोटारींपैकी 500 मोटारींची नोंदणी सोमवारी एका दिवसात झाली, असेही ते म्हणाले.
पिंपरी-चिंचवड येथील उपप्रादेशिक परिवहन कार्यालयातही दुचाकींची नवी मालिका (डीआर) दसऱ्याच्या सुमारास सुरू झाली. सोमवारपर्यंत या मालिकेतील नऊ हजार 800 क्रमांकांपर्यंतची नोंदणी पूर्ण झाली, तर गेल्या 15 दिवसांत सुमारे दोन हजार मोटारींची नोंदणी या कार्यालयाने केली. या काळात नोंदल्या गेलेल्या ट्रक, ट्रॅक्*टर, हलक्*या वजनाची मालवाहू वाहने, टॅक्*सी, रिक्षा अशा वाहनांची संख्या 700 हून अधिक असल्याचे तेथील नोंदणी अधिकारी संजय खरात यांनी सांगितले.

unless metro network of around 150 kms comes up traffic wll keep on increasing. And unless it increases to insane levels I do not think govt will become serious. I do not see this long network of metro happening till I retire.

Rs 2,500 crore sought for road development in Pune division

The Pune Divisional Commissionerate has sought Rs 2,500 crore from the Centre and the State governments for developing a road network of 24,569 km in the division comprising five districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur. The commissionerate has also sought around Rs 800 crore for repair of roads.

The proposal was recently placed before the Vijay Kelkar committee set up by the state government to work out alternatives to remove regional imbalances in growth. The Committee visited the city earlier this month.

“We have put up the proposal before the Kelkar Committee. We are hoping the required funds are allocated at the earliest,” said Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh.

For extension of roads and building connecting roads, the commissionerate has demanded Rs 122 crore. “For the 24,569 km roads in the division, we need around Rs 2,585 crore,” said an official from the commissionerate.

Pune district is looking at road extension of nearly 10,077 km, which would cost of Rs 252 crore. Satara’s 3,097.82 km will incur a cost of Rs 619.56 crore, Sangli’s 1,513.30 km will cost Rs 378.25 crore, Solapur’s 8,712 km will cost Rs 871 crore and Kolhapur’s 1,168.30 km demand will cost Rs 467.32 crore.

The Public Works Department has given details for development of roads on state highways, and district-level roads in the division. “The Committee gave a hearing to our demands. We hope the amount is soon disbursed,” said an official.

The commissionerate has demanded Rs 815 crore for repair of 21,727.11 km of roads. According to the Deputy Commissioner (Development), there are major repairs that have to be completed.

In view of balanced development, there are many roads that need repair works. Pune district itself needs repair work on nearly 6,334.66 km which would cost Rs 237.55 crore. Satara needs to repair 3,390.57 km which would cost Rs 127.15 crore, Sangli needs Rs 124.5 crore for repair of 3,319.06 km, and Solapur needs Rs 224.40 crore for 5,982.96 km. Repairs needed on 2,639.86 km of roads in Kolhapur will cost Rs 101.25 crore.

The Kelkar Committee which reviewed the Pune division plan has stressed urbanisation, sanitation and garbage disposal as major challenges before cities such as Pune. Road and infrastructure works were part of the development work for the district. The 14-member committee visited Pune on November 3-4. The committee members held a meeting with elected representatives and government officials from Pune division.

Development plan proposes walking plaza on Laxmi Road

A walking plaza on busy roads of the city, including Laxmi Road, is part of the new Development Plan (DP) for the old city.

"Across the world, pedestrian facilities like walking plazas have augmented socio-economic benefits. Laxmi Road is one of the busiest roads in the city. It is possible to have a walking plaza on this road in addition to other roads," says the draft DP document.

Prior to the Diwali season last year, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the traffic police had jointly proposed an 800-metre walking plaza on the stretch between City Post and Umbrya Ganapati chowk on weekends. However, the plan was abandoned after strong

opposition from a section of traders and corporators.

During festive seasons, there is a huge crowd of shoppers on Laxmi Road. However, due to heavy traffic and parking, it becomes unsafe to walk, traffic police have said.

"The new DP is applicable to the old city area, including the 17 Peth and surrounding areas spanning over 147.85 sq km. The area is congested and the situation will worsen in the next few years. The civic administration has proposed that a walking plaza be implemented on Laxmi Road and in Peth areas and traffic be banned. It is up to the elected representatives to accept or reject the idea," said a senior civic official.

The civic administration has tabled the DP before the General Body, which is likely to decide on the same in the next few weeks. The new Development Plan for 2007-2027 for the old city area has laid out a blueprint expecting a spiraling growth over next few decades.
