These two buildings are side by side, The left one is just plain ugly (I hate these retro style tall buildings, the other example would be Pingan building in Shanghai, I'm sure it was posted here before) and the right one is more odd than ugly, I wonder how it's going to look like when it's finished..

@ erbse I completely agree with you on that point. I gained a bad view of postmodernism from buildings like the ones above your post. If more new skyscrapers, and architecture in general, used more buildings like the one in Berlin, it would be amazing. THAT is postmodernism done right. I think that new art deco building you posted looks better than some original ones!

Yeah, postmodernism can be awesome. Sadly, we're living in an era, where a universal understanding of aesthetics isn't around anymore. That's why we see loads and loads of either kitschy, bland or just plain deconstructivist / brutalist-ugly buildings going up everywhere.

The Kollhoff Tower in Berlin can be seen as a reference to Art Deco, but actually it's more leaning towards a German style of the 1920s called Brick Expressionism. An original example of this beautiful style is the Ullstein Highrise by Eugen Schmohl - in Berlin, too.
