Singapore for students

Hey all,

I wonder how Singapore seems amazing and wonderful. I wish I could study there, but how does work the process of visa? Which are the best universities there (chemical engeering)? And the cost of life, may it be expensive or cheap?

Welcome to the Singapore forums. Currently Singapore has 5 public universities - NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD and SIT. NUS, NTU and SIT offer Chemical Engineering Courses, although SIT mainly caters to polytechnic graduates by affiliation. For costs of living, the university admissions will be able to advice you, as there are various schemes such as scholarships. Costs will also vary depending if you are staying in halls within the campuses, or on your own.

Singapore is one the best destination for study abroad. It is one of the most favorable destination for study because the fee of Singapore is lowest among other western countries. After study you can apply for Singapore Employment Pass through which you can work in Singapore full time. Getting Visa is not a problem for Singapore because its government is quite open in providing Visas to both students and job seekers.

Firstly you've got to get a place in a university, then they will process the visa for you basically. Costs of living wise, if you live in student halls, take public transit and eat in hawker centers you may keep it relatively cheap, but anything other than that will cost you a fortune. You can fit food costs under 100 bucks per month + another 50-100 for transportation. You can check the school fees and hall fees on their respective websites.

If you desperately want to rent out a room outside of your university, it will take 400-500 per month in the 'suburbs' (New Towns as we call it) and a whole apartment will very rarely go below 1-1.5k.

But looking at your signature, I'd recommend you to think twice. If you're not so pro-establishment Singapore may not be for you, since the Govt quite literally owns the whole goddamn place. Regardless, good luck with your selection and tertiary education.

Not bad. The cost of life is lower than (or equal) a big brazilian city.

Hey all,

I've search where I could study there and the name is A STAR. I've read and it's not an university, it's a research agency, as Max Planck from Germany, right? Well, so, I think I cannot be a student, I must wait to fnish my bachellor, or am I wrong?

Perhaps you could write to the Universities for enquiry of admission. I happened to have 4 of them.

National University of Singapore
This is the 'Royal' college of Singapore.

There is no National Management University here - it is the Singapore Management University (SMU)

Yes A Star is an agency, not a school and you have to wait till you graduate from college before you can apply for a job in Astar.
