China Air Transport Assoc. puts four logistics firms on no-fly list

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- China Air Transport Association (CATA) on Monday announced its decision to put four domestic logistics firms on its no-fly list due to security flaws.

A fire started in a storage bin of flight CZ6524 on Oct. 22 after the plane landed at Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport due to the spontaneous combustion of inflammable materials belonging to logistics firms, according to the CATA announcement posted on its official website on Monday.

Courier firms Shanghai YTO, Yunda Express, Huixing and Qihang will have to suspend their airfreight services until their business procedures improve, said CATA, an association that calls most Chinese airlines members.

According to relevant industrial rules, "all member carriers of the association should refuse to transport cargo for the four couriers during the suspension," said the announcement.

Shanghai YTO was to blame for its incorrect classification of lithium batteries, while the other logistics firms were punished for transporting the prohibited article vesuvian, which caused the fire, according to CATA.

In an online statement Sunday, Shanghai YTO admitted negligence in security checks concerning its cargo transported on flight CZ6524, claiming that the efficiency of its express deliveries will not be affected.

Shenzhen Airlines Joins Star Alliance
http://www.wcarn.com/cache/news/22/22623.html
Shenzhen Airlines today became the latest carrier to join the Star Alliance network. At a ceremony held at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, Mark Schwab, CEO Star Alliance, welcomed the airline into the family on behalf on the Alliance's Chief Executive Board (CEB).

"Shenzhen Airlines is China's fifth largest carrier and strengthens the Star Alliance presence in China and across Asia. Our customers now benefit from improved access throughout the economically important Pearl River Delta and across southern China. Shenzhen Airlines at the same time gains access to a global network with enhanced benefits for its passengers; truly a win-win situation," said Mark Schwab.

Adding Shenzhen Airlines to the network is part of Star Alliance's strategy of improving access to current and future growth markets, thus providing the international traveller with more destinations and flights. In the case of China, the foundation for this strategy was set many years ago, by those Star Alliance member carriers who have been successfully serving this market for several decades. In December 2007 the Alliance added China's Flag carrier Air China to the network.

Feng Gang, the president of Shenzhen Airlines said: "Today is filled with joy for all of us at Shenzhen Airlines. After 16 months of integration work, we have become a Star Alliance member. We know that today no single airline alone can tend to the needs of the international traveler. By joining Star Alliance we can now offer our customers global reach, while at the same time placing Shenzhen firmly on the map of world-wide air travel. We are proud to proclaim that Shenzhen Airport, serving the 4th largest city in China, is now the newest Star Alliance Hub, from which we will make our mark not only in China, but across the Asia-Pacific region."

Air China Chairman Wang Chengshun said: "As Shenzhen Airlines' mentor, we are delighted to see that Shenzhen Airlines in the last 20 years has achieved substantial growth. We believe that Shenzhen Airlines will leverage alliance resources to improve its own competitiveness, and to realise its strategic target of being a large network carrier covering Asian and intercontinental destinations with its hub in Shenzhen".

As a Star Alliance member, Shenzhen Airlines offers its customers access to a global network, along with seamless travel and enhanced frequent flyer benefits.

The airline adds some 400 daily flights to 70 destinations to the Star Alliance network. Among these are five new destinations in China: Juzhou (Zhejiang Province), Linyi, Qinhuangdao, Shijiazhuang, and Zhoushan. In addition to improving connectivity from its home base in Shenzhen, international passengers benefit from a wider choice of transfer flights in China when connection via the international airports in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai - Pudong. As part of seamless travel customer promise, Shenzhen Airlines offers through check-in for passengers connecting to and from other Star Alliance member airlines flights. On a global basis, the 27 Star Alliance member carriers now offer more than 21,900 daily flights to 1,329 destinations in 194 countries.

Shenzhen Airlines' PhoenixMiles Frequent Flyer (FFP) members can now collect and redeem miles on the entire Star Alliance network. By the same token, the FFP members of all other Star Alliance member carriers now receive mileage credits for eligible flights on Shenzhen Airlines and can redeem miles for travel on the Chinese airline. In addition, miles credited for flights on Shenzhen Airlines count towards achieving Star Alliance Gold and Silver Status. This entitles customers to enhanced benefits when travelling on the Star Alliance network, which include among others, increased luggage allowance as well as access to more than 1,000 lounges for Gold Card holders.

Star Alliance offers numerous fare products for both corporate and leisure customers and Shenzhen Airlines now sells and participates in a selection of these. In view of the strong business community located in Shenzhen Airline's catchment area, the Star Alliance Corporate Plus product - which allows corporate clients to obtain corporate deals for travel on the Star Alliance network via one member airline - will enhance the carrier's proposition to this market segment.

For the Conventions and Meetings market segment, the tailor-made Star Alliance Conventions Plus and Meetings Plus products will increase in attractiveness, as organisers and delegates can now include Shenzhen Airlines in their travel planning. Moreover it allows easier access to the Pearl River Delta as a meeting and conventions location.

Flights operated by Shenzhen Airlines can now be booked as part of the following Star Alliance fares: Round-the-World, Circle Pacific, Asia Airpass and China Airpass.

About Star Alliance:

The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer worldwide reach, recognition and seamless service to the international traveller. Its acceptance by the market has been recognised by numerous awards, including the Air Transport World Market Leadership Award and Best Airline Alliance by both Business Traveller Magazine and Skytrax. The member airlines are: Adria Airways, Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, TACA Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Copa Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Ethiopian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAM Airlines, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, United and US Airways. EVA Air has been announced as future member. Overall, the Star Alliance network offers more than 21,900 daily flights to 1,329 airports in 194 countries.

About Shenzhen Airlines:

Shenzhen Airlines Co., Ltd, was founded in November 1992 and started operations on September 17 of the following year. With Air China and Shenzhen International Total Logistics (Shenzhen) Co, Ltd as its major shareholders, Shenzhen Airlines focuses on the business of passenger, cargo and mail transportation. Up to January 2011, Shenzhen Airlines owns a fleet of more than 100 passenger and cargo aircraft which consists of Boeing 747s and 737s, and Airbus A320s and A319s, that are flying on over 135 domestic and international routes. According to Shenzhen Airlines' development blueprint, it will expand its fleet to 170 passenger aircraft by the end of 2015. It also plans to introduce wide-body aircraft in due course. The company will forge itself into a well-known national carrier with its independent brand among competitors in Asia-Pacific region. In future, its service network will extend across Asia and other continents.

Historic city invites SZ travelers
2012-October-15 08:53
Shenzhen Daily

QUZHOU, a historic and cultural city in western Zhejiang Province, is expecting more travelers from Shenzhen and other Pearl River Delta cities with the opening of more flights to the city starting Oct. 28.

Shenzhen Airlines’ flights from Shenzhen to Quzhou will increase to one flight per day, from the current four flights per week.

The daily flight will leave Shenzhen at 7:05 p.m. and arrive at Quzhou at 8:40 p.m. It will return at 9:40 p.m. and arrive at Shenzhen at 11:20 p.m.

“We have prepared many itineraries for tourists from Shenzhen, including a classic three-day and two-night itinerary to see Jianglang Mountain, a world nature heritage site and the shrine of the Southern Division of the Confucius Family,” Zheng Bing, vice chief of Quzhou City’s tourism bureau, said at a briefing in Shenzhen on Saturday.

Quzhou, a city with more than 1,800 years of history, neighbors Jiangxi, Anhui and Fujian provinces. Travelers can visit 10 world nature and cultural heritage sites within 200 kilometers, Zheng said.

In a drive of less than two hours, travelers can visit Sanqingshan Mountain and Wuyuan, one of the most beautiful country villages in China, in Jiangxi, along with Huangshan Mountain in Anhui and Qiandaohu Lake, and Hangzhou’s West Lake in Zhejiang Province.

Quzhou was established during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220). With a population of 2.52 million, it’s now a State-level historic and cultural city. Its airport handles around 180,000 passengers a year.

China Southern to buy 10 A330-300 aircraft
AFP Excerpt
Thu, Dec 6, 2012

China Southern Airlines, the country's largest airline by fleet size, said Wednesday it will buy 10 Airbus A330-300 aircraft in a deal worth $1.88 billion at list price to boost its capacity.

The airline said the acquisition will "facilitate the strategic change and the internationalisation of the company", the firm said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange where it is listed.

"The Airbus aircraft will be delivered in stages to the company during the period commencing from 2014 to 2016," the airline said, adding that the acquisition will be financed through internal resources and bank loans.

The airline said the purchase will enhance its "competitiveness" and increase the carrier's available tonne kilometre -- a measurement for airline capacity -- by 5.7 percent, when the new aircraft are delivered.

*************************

The deal came two weeks after rival China Eastern Airlines, a smaller Shanghai-based carrier, ordered 60 Airbus A320 in a deal worth $5.39 billion to satisfy the country's booming domestic travel demand.

The two deals came less than a month after the European Union caved in to critics on its contested carbon tax on air travel by freezing for a year a plan to force non-EU airlines to pay for carbon emissions.

Foundation laying for airport near central China Taoist resort

WUHAN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A foundation laying ceremony was held Saturday for an airport near Mount Wudang, a Taoist resort in central China's Hubei Province, authorities said.

Construction on the Wudangshan Airport will be kicked off soon and it will be the fifth airport to be built in the province, the provincial government said in a press release.

The airport is scheduled to be built with an investment of 1.54 billion yuan (247 million U.S. dollars), and is expected to become operational in 2015, it said.

The airport is 20 km from the Mount Wudang and about 15 km from Shiyan city proper.

One of China's planned regional airports, the airport's planned 2,600-meter-long runway will support operations of feeder liners with flight distances of 800 to 1,500 km.

The airport is designed to handle 900,000 passengers and 2,250 tones of cargoes and mails by 2020.

Mount Wudang, with a long history associated with Taoism, is home to numerous palaces and temples that exemplify the architectural and artistic feats of China's imperial Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.

The cluster of palaces and temples dedicated to Taoism were built in the scenic valleys and on the slopes of Mount Wudang, which UNESCO included on the World Cultural Heritage List in 1994.

As I understand yield is pretty high on this route?

And by the way, any chances to see Hainan expanding its European network?

WTF HNA, no Seattle-Shanghai? WHY? There is already Seattle-Beijing to serve northern China, time to add a direct flight to Eastern China.
