The building will be constructed on the Baltic coast, in the Laktha district of the city of St. Petersburg. With a height of 460 metres, it will be the tallest building in Europe.

The foundation works involve sinking around 260 bored piles down to a depth of around 85 metres, with diameters of up to two metres. Two BG 40 and two BG 28 state-of-the-art Bauer drilling rigs will be used for this purpose.

“We are pleased to be carrying out the foundation works for what will be the tallest building in Europe,” said Prof. Thomas Bauer, Chairman of the Management Board of BAUER AG. “Russia is a very dynamic market and we benefit from our long-term presence there time and again. It is wonderful to be involved in such an exceptional project.”

The work is set to begin in December and is expected to last until the end of June 2013.

The Lakhta Tower is already the third major contract that the BAUER Group has managed to secure in recent weeks: besides the new project in St. Petersburg, foundation works for part of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (around EUR 65 million) and the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia (around EUR 25 million) have led to a further rise in orders in hand for the Construction segment.

It indeed looks like the pilling for the tower started. In that case it should be moved to u/c of course
