![]() The sea view is important. The Park Kochi can't provide that. The 'Lulu Hyatt', with it's location, can bring in something more fascinating.

Kochi's luxury hotel all set to woo business travellers
When you travel from the Kochi International Airport, on VIP Road, you are immediately struck by a two-storeyed building with gleaming window panes on the right side. This is the Marriott Group’s first venture in Kerala: the Courtyard by Marriott, Kochi Airport. “We are aiming to be the city’s finest luxury hotel,” says hotel manager Prakash Jayadevan. “The Courtyard is the flagship property of Marriott International in Kerala. With this property we want to introduce to the Kerala market the upscale hospitality and refreshing service provided by the Marriott brand.” There are 108 spacious rooms, with contemporary décor. Of these, seven are suites, 22 are twin rooms while the rest are King Rooms. State-of-the-art facilities include 40” LED TV, modern amenities such as a tea/coffee maker, iron and ironing board, electronic safes, and rooms with interconnecting access. There is also high-speed Internet all over the hotel. The hotel also offers expansive meeting spaces for small scale meetings and social events. “There is over 1500sq ft of meeting space, state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities, wired and wireless connectivity and video conference add value to any event booking in the premises,” says Jayadevan. Meanwhile, if you don’t want to skip your timely food intake there are several outlets. There is a multi-cuisine/all-day dining restaurant: MoMo Café. The coffee shop is situated at the lobby itself. It also has a private dining area for eight people. ‘MoMo to Go’, the ‘Grab and go outlet’ is open 24 hours. You can get pastries, sandwiches, salads, as well as everyday provisions, such as packaged drinks, and packaged food products. It will have a seating area for 30 people. Being the first of its kind, ‘Grab and go outlet’, the travellers could easily enjoy their favourite dishes in a short time. There will also be a 24 hour in room facility for serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. And for those who are stressed out, there are ways to unwind. There is a swimming pool, as well as a health centre. The exercise room comprises cardiovascular equipments, free weights, treadmills, elliptical trainers, bikes and weight training machines. Asked about the type of customers, they would be expecting, Jayadevan says, “With the rise in corporate tourism in the state, the city has witnessed an increase in the traffic inflow of leisure and corporate travellers. Today, Kerala is becoming a preferred MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) destination.” And Jayadevan is confident Kochi is going to be an established metro in the near future. “Every metro has its own distinct features and beauty,” he says. “Kochi is a developing market. Soon, it will become a corporate hub in south India. Unlike Mumbai or Chennai, Kochi has retained its natural beauty.” The Courtyard by Marriott is a brand of Marriott International Inc, a company, with a turnover of $13 billion, and an employee strength of 1,50,000. The company runs 3500 hotels worldwide. Some of its brand name hotels include the Marriott Hotel & Resorts, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Residence Inn, Courtyard, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites and Bulgari. Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts en route to Kerala
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...w/17344378.cms
KOCHI: Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, a developer and manager of premium resorts and hotels in Asia-Pacific, is making fresh inroads into Indian markets with its first resort being developed in the state. Located on a private island of Nediyathuruthu in Alappuzha, Banyan Tree Kerala will be operational by the first quarter of 2013, revealed Abid Butt, chief executive officer of the company. "Banyan Tree Kerala will be an all-pool villa retreat, first of its kind in the ultra-luxury boutique resort segment. It is notable for its unique setting on a private island in the backwaters of Kerala. Each of the resort's 59 villas features expansive views of the surrounding waterways and canals," said Butt in an email interview. "The property in Alappuzha is owned by Kapico Kerala Resorts Pvt Ltd, and Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts will operate it under a management agreement," clarified Butt. "In terms of expansion in India, we are confident that the opening of Banyan Tree Kerala will be a catalyst for growth in India just as the Banyan Tree Lijiang seeded our pipeline of projects in China," he noted. Butt also revealed the expansion plans for the group. "Besides Banyan Tree Kerala, in the pipeline in India is the Banyan Tree that we are developing with IREO in north Goa. We also have an Angsana Club and Spa that we will be managing in Ludhiana. It is a gated community clubhouse." "We are actively seeking management opportunities in India for resort locations in key cities where we are confident of the same success that we achieved for our developers and partners in KL Malaysia with the Banyan Tree Signatures model," Butt added. |

A new breed of hotel for Kerala - The Park Hotels open in Kochi Spring 2013
Another top end hotel getting ready ... Category: Hotel Created on Thursday, 22 November 2012 14:59 Situated in the upcoming business district of the city, The Park Kochi (Cochin), with its international appeal and innovative design, is the most exciting hotel to hit Kochi and testament to its development into one of India’s major cities in recent years. Designed by Lotus Group, also responsible for Raas in Jodhpur, the 28 floor, 168 room building, complete with a heli-pad on the roof, will be the tallest hotel in the state. The design is reminiscent of The Park Hotels’ hallmark style, mixing the contemporary with the traditional. Striking Keralan influences feature throughout the hotel. Highlights include an upturned hull in the reception, harking back to the states’ sea-faring traditions, lights inspired by Netipattam (elephant decorations) in the entrance and hand-crafted, 6-storey high brass mobiles, based on traditional Kasava dancer outfits spread over two atriums. The Miami poolside bar concept was first bought to the subcontinent by The Park Hotels and this hotel will not disappoint. Taking pride of place on the 27th floor and with jaw-dropping views over to Old Cochin and beyond, AQUA will be white-cool in the day and vibrant-high-decibel into the night. The three restaurants consist of a 24-hour outlet, reflecting the Keralan backwaters, a specialty Kerala restaurant, serving all four cuisines from the state and a double height Asian restaurant which dominates the 27th floor. The AURA Spa will take over the 20th floor of the hotel and a separate four-storey, seven treatment room stilted structure, jewel-like and surrounded by water, will launch in January 2013. The building features intricate laser-cut Tyvek wrapped in a skin of composite glass to give the appearance of a softly glowing lantern at night. Guests can indulge in treatments, both traditional Indian and a la mode, as well as a number of programmes for top to toe overhauls. http://www.incentivetravel.co.uk/new...hi-spring-2013 |

Gateway Resorts plans more hotels in Kerala Targeting the growing corporate business travellers, The Gateway Hotels and Resorts plans to open more Gateway brands in Kerala, especially in Thrissur, in the near future. Already having eight properties in Kerala under both Gateway and Vivanta brands, the ninth one is coming up in Kochi’s IT hub, Kakkanad, by next year, P.K.Mohankumar, Chief Operating Officer, The Gateway Hotels and Resorts, said. Kerala has the potential for more business hotels and the Taj Group also plans to open its Gateway brands in the northern hill district of Wayanad as well as in Kollam, in down south region, he told Business Line. He was in Kochi in connection with the launch of Sian, a new pan Asian restaurant at The Gateway Hotel, at Marine Drive here. In future, he said The Gateway brand will be operated under a management contract with technical and management expertise from the Taj Group. The investing pattern of the Taj hotel brands is also undergoing a change in tune with the times with its brand alone playing a significant role in the asset. He also called upon the State Government to make Kerala a 365 day destination like in Goa. The State should promote its offseason through ayurveda preventive health care packages during monsoon to attract domestic tourists. For this, Mohankumar suggested rationalisation of airport taxes and ground handling charges in airports to make Kerala destinations more competitive. In Goa, 80-90 per cent of its hotel occupancy is during off season especially from domestic tourists. “This can be replicated in Kerala under a tax review by the government to make hotel business more competitive, he suggested. The State also needs world class convention centres to attract international medical conferences, he added. To a question, he said Kerala’s tourist arrivals, both domestic and overseas, have registered a 15-20 per cent decline this year which should be a matter of concern to the state’s tourism sector. The Kerala market mainly depends on arrivals from the European destinations, he said. He attributed the economic slowdown in Europe and spurt in India’s domestic air fares due to Kingfisher Airlines issues as the mains reasons for this. The domestic air fares had registered a 30 per cent rise compared to last year, he added. Mohankumar, who is also the member of Federation of Hotels and Restaurants Association, said that FHRA has been appealing to the Government to grant infrastructure status to the hotel industry because of high cost of development of hotels. If incentives are offered, capacity addition in this sector will happen, he added. Both the central and state governments should also provide incentives to the industry considering its role in generating more employment opportunities in the country, he said, adding that there is also a need to recognise the hotel industry in India as a ‘mainline economic activity’. |
