I get what you're saying, and you're right as far as it goes. My point is, with Farmers Field and the City of Industry proposals both on the table, the Coliseum remains as USC's home stadium only. No NFL, to which I say bravo.

The rendering you see was obviously there for the chance of an NFL team to move back to L.A. and well, that plan obviously didn't pan out, especially with the Farmers Field deal being pushed. I wouldn't see it as changing the character, so much as just updating it. And like I said earlier before, it wouldn't have to look exactly like that, especially if L.A. is considered to ever host the Olympics again.

Still, would have been nice...
It has been used as an olympic stadium for less than a half year. It has hosted college football for decades. Even pro football for a while. I know exactly what the rendering was for. I'm just saying, there's no reason to go totally modern with it or change the character of it. USC has been talking for years and have tried to take control of it for years. They only desire some suites and a renovation, not a gut.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum field is the place where the USC Trojans play football, two Summer Olympics were staged, John F. Kennedy accepted the Democratic presidential nomination and Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass.

It was also a location for "The Gangbang Girl #32," a hard-core pornographic movie that featured 40 minutes of group sex on the gridiron turf, The Times has learned.

My first thought on this was "horsepucky!" but then I did a Google search. From 'Curbed LA':
Quote:
So how did a porn film (specifically, The Gangbang Girl #32) get filmed at the publicly-owned LA Memorial Coliseum back in 2001? The film was permitted under the title Guns Brandished 33 and "Asked for a summary of the scene that was to be filmed the night of Sept. 15, 2001, the permit reads: 'Interior establishing shots w/models against scenery. Re-enactment of football players in practice game.'" The permit made no mention of all the boning that would be going on.

Lets just say that the City of Los Angeles no longer allows, shall we say, unchaperoned filming at the Coliseum.

Just watched it for research purposes. Honest. Really is amazing how they managed to get away with it. Only in America.

great idea, with permanent conversion (olympic stadium-football stadium); this stadium will be 1a in usa; and it will be galaxy and chiva's new home, of course with attedance 30.000-40.000 aprox (60.000-70.000 for special games: galaxy vs san jose, chivas vs galaxy, seattle vs galaxy, etc)
los angeles need this stadium renovated

It seems like it would be much easier and cheaper to renovate the Coliseum to house a pro team instead of demolishing and reconstructing the LA Convention Center to squeeze in Farmer's Field.

Does USC want the stadium to itself? It's too big for their needs capacity wise. Altering the bowl to be compatible with football would make the stadium much more fan friendly. Of course I'm sure AEG wouldn't want to spend hundreds of millions to upgrade a stadium over which they would not have exclusive control and isn't right next to their other play toys LA Live and the Staples Center.

It is a shame how the most sensible solution is not the most realistic oftentimes.
