It doesn't make public transport more accessible.

The same issue with the maps they have on the site - different schematics for each service that in no way connect the different services in space.

Much better to say this is where I am [address or GPS] and this is where I want to be [address] and have it work out routes (with walking details), expected times, and costs.
Ah I see, thanks for the info!

Yeah I agree...that'd seem like the logical option. Hopefully they plan on integrating that in future and this is just a basic release so that they have something available in the public domain.

The V& A Waterfront is becoming an integral part of City of Cape Town's expanding MyCiti bus service, and public access to the district will be enhanced with the roll-out of phase two of the Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system.

By the end of the year, the IRT will be operating directly from the V& A Waterfront to Cape Town International Airport. Two IRT trunk stations will soon be located at The Wharf and Silo district, and routes from Blouberg and Camps Bay will also be scheduled directly into the Waterfront.

Bus stops have also been completed in Century City. Well...the one I noticed outside Waterview Park (next to Liberty's building). I didn't realise that they were running all the way out there.

I noticed stations are 85-90% complete. They just need maps etc. Some stations are already lit (using a single light). I have not seen MyCiti styled stations at the waterfront though.

Over the weekend I notices that some of the bus stations on the Clifton-Camp Bay-Llandudno road had some substantial retaining walls of stone built behind them.

I thought looked quite neat and must have cost quite a bit, so it's nice to see they're still willing to spend more than the minimum on MyCiti infrastructure.

Those are cool.
Didn't realise you could use the connect card as a cash card at the shops...that's actually really handy.

The best part is that there was a similar problem when the current buses arrived.

The new buses are pretty cute. They all parked at the temporary depo and look ready to go.

*sigh*

Quote:
The implementation of new routes for the MyCiTi Bus Service, such as Walmer Estate and Salt River, is subject to the awarding of operating licences by the Western Cape Provincial Regulating Entity (PRE). These routes – along with the new smaller buses and newly constructed bus stops and stations, such as the Gardens Station – cannot become operational without these operating licences.

The City of Cape Town respects due process, and from the beginning of the process the application, supported by the City have followed the legal and procedural requirements set down by the PRE at all times. The process began in August last year when operating licences for the new routes, which were then due to launch at the end of 2012 were submitted.

The first hearing set by the PRE was for December 2012, but the PRE postponed the hearing to this week due to objections from concerned parties. The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) – on behalf of some taxi associations – and Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) lodged objections with the PRE.

The hearing resumed this past Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at which time the PRE heard the applicants’ full application for the required operating licences. Before the City could provide its presentation in support of the issuing of the licences, GABS raised procedural objections, claiming to not have had sufficient time to prepare for the hearing. The hearing has now been delayed until the first week of February.

The City is disappointed by these delays, and that this is holding back the implementation of our public transport service which aims to benefit all people in Cape Town. We believe the objections can be dealt with in a manner that does not prejudice and inconvenience the people of Cape Town.

We trust that this will be the final delay, and that we will be able to activate our new routes and infrastructure soon, in order to bring the world-class MyCiTi bus service to an even greater number of awaiting residents and visitors.

I'm getting absolutely sick of minority groups of people and companies dictating to the majority what they can and cannot do. We should implement fines or some other penalties for causing delays such as these. Why is it that the City of Cape Town could prepare for the appeal hearing, but GABS - who lodged the appeal - could not? These are shameless delay tactics that are directly affecting the lives of thousands of people. It's sickening that no matter what happens, people who have to use GABS are going to use GABS because they have no other option, thus GABS couldn't care less about the likes of public relations or something as simple as the cleanliness and smooth operation of their services

It's difficult to say that, as then a similar policy could be applied politically, where minority voices aren't heard; it's not 100% democratic. But, I hear you Lydon and I'm just as frustrated. I do think if the objections have no basis, other than to frustrate the process, than the City of Cape Town should be heavy-handed and potentially take legal action. There's a difference between a legitimate interest-group concern and a tactic to frustrate/thwart a process. I'm 99% sure this case is the latter.
