Halton Castle, Jolly Miller and the Stag and Rainbow? Or are any others in West Derby village worth going into?

You're probably best sticking with them.

There's a new one opened on the corner of Picton Road and Lawrence Road, opposite the Wellington, unimaginatively called the Picton, and probably cheap and cheerful given the number of old fellers seen coming and going in the 1 minute I was stopped at the lights.

Lawrence Road doesn't run into Picton Road?

![]() Anyone else see this? I went past it this morning, they had demolished most of the upper floors already and were in the process of putting it in a big skip. |

Yeah, I was walking past Thursday evening and they'd cordoned the intersection off. I initially wondered why Kensington was empty of vehicles: it's usually chocker of an evening.

Going on a pub crawl and curry night in Huyton & Prescot in 2 weeks so I'll let you know how I get on. Been to a lot of them before but it's the first time my mates have been up that way. The Fusilier and Bath Springs in Prescot are boarded up. The Queens Arms by Huyton train station looks like the bar out of Roadhouse minus fit blonde women with massive tits.

It may already have been posted on another thread, but today I noticed that there is now a Ship In A Bottle branch in West Kirby.

Went the Stanley in Roby last week, it's quite deceptive as it seems huge inside, absolutely packed out as well, decent selection of beers and friendly service. Went the Derby Lodge down the road, basically a hotel bar but nicely done out, better to go in the summer though as there is a massive beef garden and it looks out over the Bowring Park Gold course.
Went the Print House in Prescot, small trendy type bar which had nice Peroni on draft. The Sun Inn and the Clock Face as basically old mans pubs but quite cosy with friendly regulars. The Hope and Anchor next to the footy ground looks massive from the outside but small inside, plus you need nightvision goggles to get to the toilets, busy with karaoke singers. The Deanes house is big but was virtually empty apart from a few regulars at the bar. The Old Mill was the liveliest place in Prescot, packed and had a few bouncers on the door. The red lion was a bit of a dump with a lot of scruffy looking regulars to match the appearance of the pub. Never got to Tommy Halls, The Oak or Werherspoons though. By the way if anyone likes their curries go to the Crown of India, (old pub called the Crown converted a few years ago into a restauraunt) it's outstanding and reasonably priced!

They put a wooden perimeter fence up yesterday around the Gardeners Arms on the corner of Broadgreen Road by the Rocket. Hard to tell if they are securing the site or starting a renovation. It's a big old pub, hope it's the latter.

Slightly disappointing but hardly a surprise. If we carry on like this in ten years time there will be a hand full of soulless weatherspoons type places and not much else. |
