The best way to start a design is to look at the historical context and the cultural heart of the Country - which is in effect Maori. Study the colours and shapes of Maori Motifs and this will give you an idea of layout and a colour palette.
This was the New Zealand Pavilion at Shanghai .... ![]() Another source of inspiration is Pou, Pa and Waka Great examples of contemporary NZ architecture with a cultural influence is The Auckland Art Gallery .... ![]() and The Wellington Waka House (which was inspired by Maori weaving) ...

Also ... look at Maori carving designs - this should help with floor plans
![]() Personally I get my inspiration from the natural landscape of NZ ..... this is in effect where Maori obtained their inspiration. A great guide for materials and colours. Research, research, research and more research makes a good designer

Thanks for the tip!
Dear mate, if an architecture study will accept a future Italian architect, urban planner and designer, I'll be happy and I will give my contribution to the cultural development of the country, and to improve its image architecturally. Happy to work and live there!

The Chch Gondola should be opening late December. I can't afford to go on it, but I'm really happy it's back.
I recently interviewed for a job there but didn't get to the second interview stage. The trip wasn't a waste, 'cause the guy let me have a look at the control panel, and the machinery up close. Last edited by Rooty; November 21st, 2012 at 11:57 AM. |

Who likes Dr Pepper?
I love the flavour, but it hits me with this weird wallop. I originally thought it was the stuff Americans use for sugar, but the ones at Pak'n Save are British. The only similar thing I can think of is the feeling of Drambuie, alcohol aside. One Drambuie feels like you've drank something more than one alcoholic drink. I first wrote "drinken" for drank, looked it up and saw it's not in my dictionary. Is drinken really not a word? Last edited by Rooty; December 15th, 2012 at 06:47 AM. |

Drinken is not a word unless you're Swedish and using the definitive singular.
![]() Dr Pepper is nice! No one knows what flavour it is, though.

"I've eaten way too much." "I've drinken way too much." This was news to me. I've been saying it my whole life. They have Dr Pepper in ~2L bottles at this British food shop near me. Is it mainstream in the UK? Is calling it an Almond Cola not right? Do those taste different still? Last edited by Rooty; December 27th, 2012 at 12:49 PM. |

![]() Did you do German in school? Ich esse zu viel. Ich trinke zu viel. I think I like the word drinken. It sounds Old English.

This photo gets me everytime. Its awe inspiring, but also bone chillingly scary.
Taken in the shallows of the Auckland Islands, 450 kms south of Invercargill.
