DETROIT (Dec. 8, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Team put together an excellent second half and scored twice after the break through Carli Lloyd and Sydney Leroux to record a 2-0 victory against China PR in the eighth match of the 2012 Fan Tribute Tour, presented by Panasonic.

A crowd of 17,371 at Ford Field roared its approval as the USA moved to 26-1-3 in 2012. The match was the 12th all-time played indoors by the U.S. Women who have a perfect 12-0-0 record under a roof.

Additional Notes:

The USA extended its unbeaten streak to 21 games.
The match marked the first time since the Olympic gold medal game in which Alex Morgan or Abby Wambach did not score a goal.
U.S. captain Christie Rampone earned her 274th career cap. She sits behind only former teammates Kristine Lilly (352) and Mia Hamm (275) on the U.S. and world’s all-time caps list. If Rampone plays in the final two games of the year against China, she will move past Hamm, as well.
If Lloyd plays against China on Dec. 12 in Houston, she will earn her 150th career cap and become the 17th player to reach that mark for the U.S. Women.
U.S. interim head coach Jill Ellis made all six of her allowed subs, also giving Heather Mitts a run in the 71st minute in place of Amy LePeilbet.

Pretty good crowd. Not sure why it wasnt played at any number of SSS's though. A womens friendly at a 65ker seems ridiculous.

I agree. . I was reading that a previous match against China drew 18,500 in PPL Park in Chester PA this past May..

They wanted to have a match in the north and Detroit is one of the player's hometowns so it made sense because there is no SSS.

Obviously it looks nice, but also unnecessarily expensive, especially if you're not going to go the whole hog and wrap it up all the way around.

Not wrapping it all the way around is smart. There will be a point in the future when MLS will need 30,000 seat stadiums to prosper. It's a good way to leave space to expand if needed.

Phoenix FC (USL Pro, USSF Div 3) today announced that they will play their home games at the Arizona State University Soccer Stadium for the next 3 years. Currently the stadium seats 1,050 seats but Phoenix FC will expand the stadium to 5,000 seats with the possibility to expand to 8,000-10,000. This will be completed for the 2013 season.

here's a better idea. tear down the upper decks at the citrus bowl, renovate that stadium and play there.

it's already downtown with ample parking and mass transit.

Well actually, I'd think for Orlando it would be a little less than that. Like 18,000. But I guess that's the way to go.

I know it's an artists impression and nowhere near the final design, but that roof doesn't match that bowl at all. With that bowl a roof like say PPL Park (but bigger, covering all the seats, some hot sun in Florida in summer) or that roof with a bowl more like Houston, needs more curves.

Midfielder Carli Lloyd added her 43rd career goal during her 150th career international appearance, Heather O’Reilly assisted both Wambach goals and Amy Rodriguez added a late goal as the USA improved to 7-0-2 on the Fan Tribute Tour, a celebration of the team’s run to a fourth gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz wants Major League Soccer to drop its plan to build a pro-soccer stadium in Flushing Meadows Park, and instead field a team in the “greener pastures” of his borough.

The Beep says no place on earth can compete with the cachet of the Brooklyn brand — and claims the Borough of Kings is filled with more soccer-starved fans than its neighbor to the east.

“I know Queens is pushing for a stadium, but I believe pro soccer belongs here in Brooklyn,” Markowitz said following a ceremony marking the opening of three new sports fields in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
