That's all true. I guess the devil will be in the detail.

This month is decision month! I hope INSW hand down a public recommendation asap. I'm quite excited

I think I'm pulling for Lend Lease as well. Whilst they've already got a big pipeline with Barangaroo, it would be great to see an integrated OMA-designed precinct in Australia.

It might also be the kick in the pants Brookfield needs to really get going with 115 Bathurst and City One.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PREFERED PLAN:

 The largest exhibition space in Australia at 40,000 sqm - the equivalent of five
football fields. It includes 35,000 sqm of dedicated space and a further 5,000
sqm of flexible space.

 The biggest total meeting room space in Australia at 8,000 sqm across 40
rooms, linked to both convention and exhibition areas.

 The biggest Australian convention capacity - known as plenary space - able to
accommodate more than 12,000 people over four different areas, allowing
multiple events to take place at the same time.

 Sydney’s largest ballroom, for at least 2,000 people - almost double the current
capacity.

A red carpet, premium entertainment facility with a capacity of at least 8,000

people, suitable for both entertainment events and 'mega' conferences.
 State-of-the-art technology throughout, such as free wireless connectivity
across all facilities and 10 free Wi-Fi hot spots in the public open space.

Up to 900 hotel rooms in a hotel complex at the northern end of the precinct.

 The new convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities will be built north of
Pier St.

 Renewed and upgraded public domain that has been increased by a hectare,
including an outdoor event space for up to 25,000 people at an expanded
Tumbalong Park.

 A new neighbourhood at the southern end of the precinct, called The
Haymarket, home to high-tech businesses, apartments, student
accommodation, shops, cafes and restaurants.

 The new urban neighbourhood will be created south of Pier St on the site of the
existing Sydney Entertainment Centre and car park.

 Improved pedestrian connections drawing people between Central, Chinatown
and Cockle Bay Wharf as well as east-west between Ultimo/Pyrmont and the
city.

The convention facilities will cost $1Billion. The new Haymarket precinct will be another $1.5Billion and includes 900 hotel rooms, 1400 apartments, 23,000 sqm of student accomodation and 15,000 sqm of commercial space + 7,000 sq m of retail space.

This with Barangaroo plus Central Park are huge city reshaping projects.

*squeal* Love the theatre and covention but I am NOT a fan of the hotel towers, they are a modern looking UTS, quite brutal and monolithic and that red brick paving really needs to go around DH

I guess that will be the price to pay for having bigger and better facilities.

I'm hopeful that the hotel goes get subject to a design competition because it truely needs to be exceptional. Saying that this gets a thumbs up.

Thumbs up here. I'm hoping those towers are just an indicative building envelope rather than the preferred design. They will stand out so they must be nothing but the best design available. The rest looks fantastic.
How will Lend Lease fit this in with Barangaroo? Will they have to stagger out this development to fit in with what they are doing there?

OMG expect a ferocious reaction from the NIMBY's over this.

I bet the Novotel is ecstatic as well. Looks like they will lose most of their views?
