I think most folks headed there connect thru Toronto. Probably not enough demand for a separate flight.

Back in the old USAir hub at BWI days, there were nonstops from BWI to Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary.
When Southwest nixed their arrangement with Westjet, they said that the'd fly to Canada themselves when they could. So, eventually we'll get more nonstops north of the border. Also at the time of the old USAir hub: British Airways and USAir partnered on the London flight for connecting traffic. I guess the state subsidy makes up for the loss of the connecting pax. |

Flights were to Montreal and Ottawa. There has never been non-stop service from BWI to Calgary. In fact, these flights were once operated by Piedmont. These were direct flights via Syracuse after PI acquired Empire Airlines.

It was cool when there were flights to Greenland out of BWI...Greenland has always been a place that I've wanted to go but I was never able to take advantage and the flights didn't last long.

And for a while with a 727! It left from C8, it would come in early morning,
Plane mate to Customs... Then at night back to Canada.

..And an article on BWI mice, a population that I'm fairly certain has been an ongoing issue at the airport since its earliest days.

Looks like JetBlue will be adding an additional flight between BOS and BWI. It's nice to see them adding frequency. They started out with 4 and it seems each year they keep adding. However this brings up a few questions:

My guess is they are waiting to see what SW does once the merger is final.

At long last: Southwest/Airtran codeshare!
Finally!!! Starting next year we should start to see some real expansion in the number of international flights from BWI. This has been a long time coming and will be great news for BWI and Baltimore.
From the Dallas Morning News: Southwest Airlines chairman and CEO Gary Kelly told an investment conference Friday that Southwest is about to begin connecting its network with AirTran Airways by beginning code-sharing. Eventually, that’ll mean a traveler can buy a single ticket that has both Southwest and AirTran flights, such as flying from Dallas to Cancun or Mexico City through San Antonio or to New York or Nassau, the Bahamas, through Atlanta. Kelly said the system that allows code-sharing “is ready.” A test will begin Dec. 26, followed by a “soft rollout of that functionality in January, followed by a Phase 1 more full rollout in Feb. Phase 2 in March and, presuming everything goes well, full up in April.” Although Southwest closed its purchase of AirTran on May 2, 2011, the two carriers have operated separate networks. If someone wanted to take a Southwest flight and then travel onward on an AirTran flight, it would require two tickets. Kelly said the “long pole in the tent” on completing the integration of AirTran into Southwest is technology, primarily its work to replace Southwest’s reservations system. That work began last year when Southwest picked Amadeus to provide the technology. The work has progressed now to allow the code-sharing, he said. Overall, Southwest has finished or made good progress on the six or seven major tasks needed to absorb AirTran into Southwest, he said. “We have a very solid plan to have AirTran completely integrated into Southwest Airlines by the end of 2014,” Kelly said. |

I still think HOU will be the jackpot for WN's international network.

Houston is far enough away that BWI can still be a major international hub for them. I think we're screwed if they make Atlanta the east coast hub.
