A flawless beauty of a city. I was there as a kid, and although I don't remember much detail, I always thought it looks perfectly beautiful. Glad to see that memory verified

The modest parliament building, Stortinget, was opened in 1866, and is built in neo-romantic style. This is the north side wall facing Karl Johans gate, the front is around the corner you see to the right of the photo ![]() What in reality is the back of this building, has a modernist extension as well, which admittedly is nothing special although it also doesn't ruin the appearance of the building much. Here you only see the small wall on one side of the extension ![]() It's among the nicest buildings along Karl Johans gate ![]() ![]() The Tanum bookstore, part of the Paleet shopping complex ![]() This building is now well-known in the city for housing Oslo's Hard Rock Cafe ![]() Source: thread: [Europa] W moim obiektywie |

The streetscape is actually rather colorful with exception of those places that have gone through re-development schemes during the 20th century.

Thanks for comments and nice pics Galro ![]() Photos from this thread: [Europa] W moim obiektywie in the polish forums. The walk along Karl Johans gate continues... ![]() The National theater ![]() ![]() The National theater has a metro and train station named after it, and is a central hub in the city besides the Central Station - this is the square between the station and the theatre itself ![]() ![]() The Royal palace - indeed a very modest, simple palace, but I must say I sort of like the "cleanness" of it, somehow. In fact, this sort of signifies a lot of the older buildings in Oslo - they are "cleaner," simpler versions of the more extravagantly ornamented ones elsewhere in Europe. ![]() ![]() Source: thread: [Europa] W moim obiektywie |

I'm not unequivocally a fan of the parliament building we have, myself, but we will have to disagree that that would have been a better option, the only thing better is the height imho... Besides that, it looks too much like church architecture in my eyes.

Photos from this thread: [Europa] W moim obiektywie in the polish forums.
The photographer is travelling with the Oslo metro from Nationaltheatret station up towards Holmenkollen, where the well-known skiing and ski jump arena is. The metro quickly leaves the central tunnel and starts climbing up the partially steep hill. ![]() The view from the carriage towards the city starts getting nice after a while of climbing the Holmenkollen hill ![]() This is the Holmenkollen metro station ![]() It's the ski museum at Holmenkollen (admittedly not a impressive building from the outside), you can barely see the top of the Holmenkollen ski jump itself behind it ![]() Just a few steps up this path... ![]() ... And you end up at a view of this big attraction in Oslo, which needs no further introduction if you know anything about Oslo ![]() Btw, there's two people sitting there somewhere in the arena, can you find them? They will give you a sense of the scale. Wanna try a jump? ![]() Source: thread: [Europa] W moim obiektywie Last edited by dexter26; December 11th, 2012 at 05:05 AM. |
