Grand Rapids, Michigan: Heritage Hill
In October, I visited the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan again and took a tour of the Heritage Hill Historic District. Heritage Hill is the city's oldest residential district and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The architectural styles in the neighbourhood are diverse. One notable home in the neighbourhood is the Meyer May House, built by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908, in his traditional Prairie-Style.
Here we go with the tour… ![]() Houses on Paris Avenue… ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() View from the roof of my cousin's house... ![]() ![]() Houses on Morris Avenue... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Meyer May House, built in 1908, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's trademark Prairie School Style houses. Was the first-ever FLW home constructed in Michigan. ![]() It was built for Meyer May, a prominent Grand Rapids clothier, today it is a museum and offers tours. ![]() ![]() Homes on Madison Avenue... ![]() ![]() ![]() Cute outhouse... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking towards downtown... ![]() Stratford townhomes, on Morris Avenue... ![]() The Stone Castle, was once a private residence, then a restaurant, and today is a business building, with a Dentist's Office. ![]() ![]() ![]() Voigt House, Victorian mansion completed in 1896. ![]() ![]() ![]() Washington Street ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here at College Avenue and Logan Avenue, we encounter another Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house, the David Amberg House, built in 1910. No doubt that old houses remain in their original shape and didn't became scrap after hundred years. The built is architectural but durability is main factor.

Thanks for the photo tour, Jaybird! This neighborhood has some very lovely homes.
If you haven't already, you should post this in the Urban Showcase.

This area kind of reminds me of Toledo's Old West End.

Thanks, everyone for the great comments! Pilliod Njaim, I sort of felt the same way in that Heritage reminds me of Toledo's Old West, except the Old West is flat and not quite as forested. I also thought HH reminded of a Hamilton, Ontario neighborhood called Durand, similar setting, though houses might be a bit older in Durand.

What a great looking neighborhood! They sure don't build 'em like they used to.
