Also GoogleMaps has updated its Dunedin satellite imagery - it doesn't show on my version of GoogleEarth yet so I'm not sure of the exact date of the photography but I think it's probably about October this year. Construction of the Highland Park and Heathfield subdivisions at Mosgiel is visible along with expansion of Silverprings, Glenrothes estates...

If it is built, it'll be about the tallest building outside of Auckland won't it?

No the Majestic Centre and State Insurance Building in Wellington would be taller. The Hotel would be the 18th tallest structure in NZ according to Wikipedia... It would be a brave man who would bet on it getting built though imo.

Wow! I actually really like it! Perhaps a more refined design, something that'll make it fit and look modern to its surrounds.

You no! Capital cites aside, it could in actual fact be the tallest building outside of a capital in both Australia and New Zealand if constructed?!?...

NIMBY's can be overcome (long battle) look a the stadium. You no there are allot of benefits too, could set a precedent for more highrises in Dunedin, kick start some big investment in the city.

I could even see a day when big businesses would choose to set up offices in Dunedin over Christchurch - in fact some moving south into Dunedin.

Was just gonna say Auckland and GC.

Thought certainly of any regional city. Also, that picture from Mornington has a narrow, zoomed in FOV, it would be much smaller to a human eye.
Several km of the foreground is missing.

Well I wish Dunedin all the best in that regard. Christchurch obviously isn't interested in serious commercial development with its pathetic height limits, so if Dunedin can find ways to capitalise on this and attract investors to spend their money there instead then good luck to them I say and then that will allow Christchurch to be the small town it obviously wants to be - everybody wins.
