No proper place to stick posters. No long benches for beggers to sleep.

This is very cheap to build ...so no cutting for oppicers

Most of all it is very big for a MTC bus stand

Unless we do something about the open drainage and keeping the city clean, mosquitoes will tend to dominate the city life. The cartoon of the mosquito lifting the bus is cool.

Yeah. I remember Mosquitoes in the back seat of a TNSTC VPM Volvo from CHN to Pondi too.
I have seen people spit Paan and Gutka at the back of the bus, between the last seat and the rear LED. This is what breeds cockroaches and mosquitoes.

A key requirement is more AC buses, given how hot and humid Chennai is. One feels that so much money is spent on freebies and not on buying modern buses. Delhi's bus fleet has definitely changed for the better with 1,000 new AC and non AC low floor buses. More non AC low floor buses are also needed.

Basically the number of fleet which MTC owns is not enough. We need atleast 6000 buses to reduce the burden on current fleets. Similarly mini buses are need to connect the sub-urban areas with main junction and sub-urban/MRTS stations.

AC buses are much needed, but before that let them add more non-ac buses and then they can start looking into AC buses.

Hoping for the best in JNNURM-2. If they add atleast 200 more AC buses and 1000 more SLF/LF buses, then it will be a good deal for chennai. All these will get added to the existing fleets because the average age of MTC buses are very less. Average age of buses of during JNNURM-1 is too high and because of this most of them were considered as replacement and not a new route addition.

Thats what I meant. In Delhi they added 1500 new buses. But, in Chennai they have to scrap all the old vehicles in a phased manner and also add new vehicles. Why I said AC buses is needed because both in Delhi and Chennai, the climate means you have to have AC buses at prices only slightly higher than the normal. The thumb rule is 1 bus for 1,000 people, so Chennai should have 6000-7000 buses, of which at least 1000 can be AC low floor.

1000 AC is is a big dream in TN.

Let them add more SLF/LF to reduced the crowd in the current routes. Frequency should be increased in many of the present routes. Even if we get 1000 new SLFs in JNNURM-2, it will be a big boon to us.

True. The crowding has to be seen to be believed. At such times, you feel so depressed.

One more news item related to Chennai College students.

Soon, ‘death traps’ to be sealed by doors
Quote:
All State-owned buses are likely to get doors as the State Transport Authority (STA), learning lessons from the death of four footboard travellers on an MTC bus a few days ago, has advised transport corporations to equip their fleets with the key safety feature.

“What happened in the MTC bus may repeat in other transport corporation fleets as well. We have advised the authorities concerned to install doors in all buses,” a senior official with the STA said.

Automatic doors are installed in deluxe buses plying in different cities across Tamil Nadu. Besides, doors have been installed in long distance buses of the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC).

“We have directed Regional Transport Officers (RTO) to check the condition of automatic doors when the buses are sent for Fitness Certificate examination,” the official added.
