Btw, I meant should I take the road from Tirana via Elbasan instead, someone told me its a good fast road to the Greek border. I'd try it one day but I have a friend near durres so prefer to pass that way.

Given the curvy part between Tirana and Elbasan, the bad road along Lake Ohrid and the longer distance in general, it's now in any case faster to travel from Tirana or Durres over Fier and Tepelena to the Greek border.

It would just make sense if you want to have a look at the beautiful landscape in the Northeast or if you want to travel to Florina or other Northern Greek cities there.

A highway can be a one lane dirt road, so long as its a reasonable route and the main route between two points of significance. Its kind of a relative term. At-least that's how I understand it...

Albanian roads are better than those of greece.

That's certainly true. Where they have been completed Albanian roads are very good and I'm sure when the network is finished it will be better maintained than the Greek system, which matters more than how wide lanes are etc.
For me some of the best roads in Europe are those in Croatia.

Croatia and Albania have the newest roads in the region.The greek roads are a disappointment for an country being in EU for so long.

For me best motorways in europe are in Croatia, on the other hand greece a2 egnatia road is very good and greece has been EU member since 1981 so they had received lots of money from eu, the only thing is greece roads need to be maintained better because of shortage of money as we know why.....

Finished stretches of new Albanian roads were quite nice, however.

Since 2009 all Greek Motorways have been given to private companies. Before that it was bad indeed in bad condition ( Athens Attiki Odos and the main North-South A1 ) but after 2009 almost all motorways have been resurfaced and maintained regurarly.

Also there isnt a "Greek System" of how wide the lanes are, the motorways being built follow EU safety standards. And for the record , the best roads in Europe are in France
