Ta for the notice.

It doesn't seem that different to what was originally proposed, the facade along Newfoundland way retains its predominately glass facade, so it should be all good.
It'll definitely bring in some much needed bulk and urban-ness to that entrance of the city centre.

Now if they can sort out this area along with the (ex)staples store opposite and it would be all set:

I really like this project, Probably the top of my list of areas I would want completed (along with St Mary Le Port & Temple Way Projects).

Would it be safe to assume that the developers are looking at pushing ahead with this project? If not, why would they spend money on re-designing the scheme?

If I'm honest I cant really see whats been changed? Apart from maybe adding a extra floor..?

Current Design:

Some Pics of the updated designs:

I looks like the frontages are all straight now, whereas they used to lean slightly forward/outward towards the top? I think I much prefer the original design in that respect.

Me too, "value engineering" strikes again.

I wonder if it will actually look like Thirty Bloody Three by the time it is built?

A third tower crane has gone up today at the BRI. Been watching it slowly rise into view above the rooftops. Anyone know when the new development is supposed to be complete?

Was speaking to a chap who's a consultant anaesthetist last night about this, actually. He said all the projects (including the relocation of services, new buildings and the refurb of the Queens Bldg) was scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013, but reckons it may have slipped a bit.
There will be M&S, Costa Coffee's etc. along the front. Out with the WRVS tea ladies!

Not massive news but Bang Olufsen seem to have opened a new store at Cribbs Causeway near the Porsche Garage...

Bit of a strange location if you ask me but they seem to have spent a lot of money doing the premises up!

This proposal is high quality with consideration given to the existing and neighbouring buildings. The apartments right on the waterfront will complete that side of the river and look great for city centre dwellers.

I saw the plans for this and hoped it would be an interesting and unqiue building. I think it delivers on both fronts. Great photos and fair play to Woodhouse & Hall for commissioning this type of modern approach to a bar and restaurant.

Work starts on Wapping Wharf development

An archaeological investigation has started at regeneration site Wapping Wharf on Bristol's Harbourside, which is set to kick-start the first phase of the development.

Developer Umberslade has appointed Bristol-based BaRAS to undertake the land preparation and a team of seven archaeologists are set to be based on the site until February.

The first phase of Wapping Wharf is set to include 180 apartments and 9,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

The archeologists will be looking for the remains of 18th and 19th century industrial buildings, including a timber yard and a ropewalk, associated with the city's role as a port.

John Bryant of BaRAS, said: "We've worked on several projects across the city centre but this is quite unique as it’s a large site with more recent history to uncover that is central to a key part of the city's history."

Stuart Hatton, director of Wapping Wharf (Umberslade) Ltd, said: "This scheme is one of the final pieces in the jigsaw of Bristol Harbourside's regeneration and we are delighted to be able to get the ball rolling with this archaeological investigation.

"This phase of the development will open up the waterfront to the people coming to the city centre from the south and will create a really vibrant area which will complement the new M Shed and leisure area along the floating harbour."

The main construction work is set to start in spring 2013 after the completion of the investigation.

Don't have any pics but just to confirm, this redevelopment is now well under way; the scaffolding is up, parts have been gutted, some little bits added.

Also, in completely unrelated news, Bo-Concept (http://www.boconcept.co.uk/) are opening up a store in the old Entertainer unit on Merchant Street.

A tower crane has gone up at the cricket ground and as I type there's a load of fireworks going off there so I assume they're having a little celebration for construction starting.

A piledriver was on site for the past couple of weeks but I didn't think anything of it until I noticed a great big crane at the end of my road this morning.

Bristol City Centre Wins Award For Night Time Vibrancy

BRISTOL city centre has won a prestigious national award hailing it as a vibrant night time destination.

For the third year running Bristol was awarded the Purple Flag as a well-managed place to visitand enjoy at night time.

The award, made by the Association of Town Centre Managers (ATCM), was applied for by Bristol City Council, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Destination Bristol.

It recognises the wide choice of entertainment and leisure attractions, the huge range of restaurants, hotels, bars and clubs and strong partnership working towards making the city centre a safer place to visit after dark.

In a bid to secure the award the council and police highlighted the reduction in crime and anti social behaviour as well as a range of highly successful events including See no Evil, the Harbour Festival and the Olympic torch relay.

Mayor George Ferguson said: "Bristol city centre has so much to offer residents and visitors alike and I congratulate al those who have worked hard to win Purple Flag status for the third year running.

"I am keen to build on this achievement to make the city centre an even more attractive place to live, work, visit and do business. This is why I want to make the city centre car free one Sunday a month to attract more people into the city as part of my campaign to make Sunday special."

Bristol was one of the first cities to gain this award.

Bristol attracts almost half a million overseas visitors a year and in 2009 was nominated as one of the top ten best cities in the world to visit for a short break.

By being granted the award the Purple Flag partnership aims to attract a greater number of visitors into the city centre at night and to reduce the negative perceptions that some people hold about the city centre.

Saw this image and really liked the way the water comes into the city. Wish we could have the same now instead of the rubbish fountains that are there at present!

Also love the Hippodrome Facade compared to now, I'm guessing it was bombed?
