Another crowded station.

Why this large number in 1946?

Just after the WW2, the metro was the only rapid mode of transportation.
Because of the war the number of private cars and buses was low and gas was lacking.
Unlike many other cities, Paris abolished its tram network during the 1930's.

In 1950 the rideship of Paris metro was 1.129 billion.
Between 1950 and 2000 the traffic stagnated between 1.1 and 1.2 billion passengers.
1955: 1.078 billion
1960: 1.166 billion
1965: 1.202 billion
1970: 1.128 billion
1975: 1.055 billion
1980: 1.094 billion
1985: 1.177 billion
1990: 1.226 billion
1995: 1.029 billion (big strike)
1996: 1.091 billion
2000: 1.247 billion

Note that before the WW2 traffic of Paris metro was under the billion
1920: 0.688 billion
1925: 0.794 billion
1930: 0.888 billion
1935: 0.831 billion
1940: 0.650 billion
It is in 1941 that the traffic of Paris exceeded for the first time the billion annual passengers with a ridership of 1.035 billion.
After 1941, it never felt under the billion mark.
The lowest ridership since then was in 1953 with 1.028 billion passengers and in 1995 with the big strike.

That's a lot for the Paris Metro. I'm sure ridership figures for Moscow & New York are greater. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

--------------------------------------

Jules Joffrin as temporary northern terminus.

I am guessing that the people in the yellow vests are the RATP agents? If so, they seemed to not bother the guy filming this video.

It is true, a bit greater for New York and much greater for Moscow.
Moscow metro is the busiest network in Europe and New York the busiest network in the Americas.
Paris metro is the busiest network in the European Union.

Moscow Metro: 2.39 billion
New York City Subway: 1.644 billion

The busiest network in Europe
Moscow Metro: 2.39 billion
Paris metro: 1.524 billion
London Underground: 1.171 billion
Madrid Metro: 0.6346 billion
Prague Metro: 0.5785 billion (2008)
All the data in for 2011, execpt Prague

Note that France is by far the country with the biggest metro ridership in the European Union and it is only because of Paris metro.
Paris metro carries more passengers than all metro networks of Germany combined and Germany is the second EU country by metro ridership.

It truly depends of the agents, sometimes they don't care, sometimes they can be quite aggressive against photographers.

New signage.
Old version: all metro/RER and tram lines are shown

New version: only the lines with transfer with the line 12 are shown, this includes the non-RER suburban train.

The ridership from 1901 to 1998 on a book "Un siècle de métro en 14 lignes".
The ridership of 2011 come from the PDF http://www.stif.info/IMG/pdf/RA_2011_BD-2.pdf published by the STIF, Paris region transport autority, page 11.

Unrelated question:
-Is there really a direct connection between line 6 and RER C at Bir Hakein, as it is shown on the maps, or does one have to exit one station and use the street to reach the other station?

Thank you!

Also, different thing: When is it planned for the ligne 14 to be prolonged south?
And what station will it contemplate? Will there be a station at Maison Blanche (connection with line 7 and T3-using the street)?

I saw somewhere that Maison Blanche was being considered as an provisional station (or whatever it would be called), like Rome is with the northern extension.

For the moment I don't have any sufficient information about it.
Rome for the moment is not planned at all.

Not even to build a shell of a station just in case? RUBBISH!

The changes to the northern extension disgusts me. They should at the very least build some sort of hallway connector between Rome & Pt Cardinet. AT THE VERY LEAST.

-----------------------------------------

Looking through the Symbioz forums, it appears that the MP 89CC #04 will transfer to tonight!

By week's end, it appears that only MP 59 #s 6016, 6021, & 6036 will be the last 3 on the line. If the transfer continues as planned, there will be no more MP 59 on by the end of the year.

we have a problem with paris metro stations:
Too dark!

In london they solved it by giving more white colour, lights , they harmonized the design of the stations to have enough lights etc...

In Paris too much darkness.

I saw several years ago a project by RATP to give more security feeling for each stations to users .

Where are the projetc now?

This the weakness of traditionnnal stations in paris. i 'm not talking about L14 which is a marvel i like to use and i don't see equivalent in Europe for such line. Jubilee line is the most closer but L14 is by far the best line seen in europe.

Only asiatic metros are so modern
