It already happened many years ago when expressways were built everywhere (most people travel by road) and all people afford to travel around. The bad effect is that all good travel destinations in the east are filled with crowd everyday and almost not worthy to go

BEIJING: The rail line comprised of 292-km section in China and the remaining 293-km section in Kazakhstan. They were joined at the Korgas Pass in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Construction of the Chinese side of the railway cost $962 million, railway officials said.

Guangzhou - Zhuhai Railway is finally openned

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From Guangzhou Daily:

Quote:

to reduce redundency and bureaucracy, centralize the management of rail, aviation and road/waterway transport. Especially with current expansion of expressways, airports and HSR it will improve coordination and efficiency of logistics, people transportation and project planning and constructions.

How easy is to book railway tickets online? Do you get train tickets, either offline or online easily especially during the lunar holiday?

I liked to buy HSR tickets from Ctrip (http://trains.ctrip.com/), it's quick and convenient (www.12306.cn is the MOR official ticketing site but its very slow last lunar new year and received harsh critisizing, I don't know how things are going this year though).

I also purchase train tickets from the ticket agent counters across the city. They charge extra 5 yuan but they have so many sites so they are very accessible everywhere.

Here in India its very tough to get tickets during the peak season and often tough even outside it. You dont get tickets easily. Is it same in China?

In China it's been in similar situation for decades (particularly during Spring Haul). The root cause is that demand is larger than supply. Hope the new HSRs/Expressways can resolve this issue from recent years on.

Railway companies' microblogs create convenience for travelers
Quote:
On Tuesday, online train ticket website 12306.com was visited by 17 million users fighting to get train tickets back home during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday.

However, fewer than 2.7 million tickets were available to be purchased from the site that day, with most of the tickets sold within minutes.

Such imbalances in supply and demand during the annual holiday travel rush have resulted in significant complaints and criticism directed at railway authorities.

Although railway authorities have long been criticized for being impersonal and out-of-touch, efforts by some rail companies to use microblogs to connect with their customers have started to prove useful.
