Granted. S Fla's vegetation is not of the kind to give much shade. However, you tell me what's better, having a beautiful palm tree that grants no shade while you're walking in the burning sun, or having a beautiful shade tree that grants shade while you're under the burning sun.

To reduce conflicts/slow downs on the mainline from exiting and entering traffic.

The purpose of this project is to allow for the reversible lanes that are key for this to happen: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1539250 There's also a BRT system in place (e-595) that will be using these lanes in the future. If that's not mass transit, don't really know what you actually want that would satisfy the density west Broward County's neighborhoods have.

Actually I'm nearly not as concerned with satisfying Broward's problems as I am with Dade's.
But since were on the subject, I guess what I want is a system that will handle far more traffic in any direction than a road will, no matter how reversible or snazzy as you make it. These lanes will simply make the future traffic jams of Broward one lane wider. I'm honestly skeptical that BRT can work anywhere in this decentralized metro area other than from downtown FLL to downtown MIA and vise versa. Only when both the starting and ending points are as dense as that can it be made to work economically. Last edited by CalleOchoGringo; December 11th, 2012 at 03:47 PM. |

BRT is a cheap, outdated solution to our traffic problems. However, it has worked for the 'burbs. e-95 and e-595 are very successful routes with some reaching the 20K/day mark last article I read from the Sun Sentinel/Miami Herald. It works just as you describe; from one place to another. If you start adding stops, it completely looses its purpose. Maybe it should be implemented in west Miami-Dade selecting a Park-and-Ride location in Doral. Last time I was at a FES lunch, MDX was thinking about implementing something like that while this construction was going on. So far nothing has happened... In other news: WEEKEND TRI-RAIL DELAYS ANTICIPATED DUE TO SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WORK Tri-Rail passengers should anticipate delays on the weekends, for the remainder of 2012, due to scheduled maintenance work on road crossings. The work is necessary to allow Tri-Rail to implement an hourly schedule on the weekends, beginning on or about March 2, 2013. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, which operates Tri-Rail, currently runs trains every two hours on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. http://www.tri-rail.com/bulletins.htm#list45

Just made a post on the Wave Streetcar thread that I'm moving here:
A subway is the only mode of transportation sexy enough for the beach. It would cost multiple billions of dollars but given the cost of land on the beach, so would a Metrorail or Metromover. I think they should extend the Metrorail from Government Center along the FEC rail, down the entire length of Dodge Island then under Government Cut extending along Washington Ave., all the way to the Miami Beach Convention Center. At 3 miles in length, the tunnel would be 4 times as long as the Port of Miami tunnel, so it would cost something like $4B but it would be worth every penny. Here's a map of what I think would be Miami's greatest accomplishment if completed:

Transit Miami made a post showing a dozen or so renderings of the new Metrorail cars. Here's a preview:

I've been thinking the same thing many times. It would probably relief MacArthur from alot of taxis and buses if cruise passangers could get from downtown, the terminal and South Beach with public transport.

Now, given the commissioners currently in office, do you think any would support such an undertaking?
