Hatsun Agro set to expand capacity

Quote:
Hatsun Agro Product Ltd is set to expand milk processing capacity and more than double the production of branded curd , according to reliable sources.

The company, the largest private sector dairy, handles about 21-24 lakh litres of milk daily which just about matches its installed processing capacity. This is about one-third of the 70 lakh litres procured in Tamil Nadu by the organised sector, including the cooperatives, which procure and sell processed, branded milk and milk-based products.

R. G. Chandramogan, Chairman and Managing Director, Hatsun Agro, said the company will add about 70,000 litres of curd production and packaging capacity which will take its total daily output to 1.20 lakh litres. The facility at Palacode, coming up with an investment of about Rs 33 crore, will commence production in February.

However, he declined to comment specifically about the milk processing capacity expansion.

Reliable sources said the company is in the preliminary stages of expanding processing capacity by about five lakh litres a day. The details of the investment are not available. The added capacities will come up in South Tamil Nadu.

The company sells liquid milk in South India under the brand name ‘Arokya’ and a range of milk-based products under the brand name Hatsun. The other major product line is ice creams under the brand ‘Arun’ and Ibaco, a chain of exclusive ice cream parlours.

About 13 lakh litres of milk procured from dairy farms is processed and sold as branded, liquid milk, ice creams and curd. The balance goes as milk ingredients including butter, ghee, skimmed milk powder and dairy whitener under the brand name Hatsun available nationally.

I miss Arun Icecreams Ad a lot. Once upon the time it gave employment to lot and to all the grandparents it gave great pleasure as their grandchildren were much happier with one cup of ice cream.

Attune Technologies to increase headcount in India, expand market

Quote:
"We will add 25 more people in the product development centre (in Chennai) and also hire people for business development in markets like Middle East, Africa and other places. We will scale up our business in India and other places," A. Arvind Kumar, chief executive of Attune Technologies told reporters here Monday.

He said the four-year-old 65-employee company got $6 million from Norwest Venture Partners for an undisclosed stake in the company.

Kumar said Attune would offer its healthcare software on "software as a service (SAAS)" model to hospitals, diagnostic labs and others on cloud platform (use of computing resources delivered as a service over the internet).

He said traditionally healthcare information technology (IT) systems are built in silos and do not talk to each other.

There are different systems for scheduling billing, hospital information system, lab information system, radiology information system and others without integration facilities.

"It will also be costly for the hospital and laboratories to go in for software charged on per user basis. There is also risk of obsolescence.

"On the other hand, in our SAAS model, the payment is based on the number of beds a hospital has or the number of samples that a lab handles. Our systems will be modern and the cash outgo for our clients will be minimal," Kumar said.

He said that when the client moves out of our fold, the data will be provided in a format which can be integrated with other systems.

As there is no legal clarity on taking the patient data outside India, Attune Technologies hosts its client's data in their respective countries.

According to Mohan Kumar, partner, Norwest Venture Partners, cloud-based software for healthcare will catch up as there are more entrepreneur-driven healthcare chains -- hospitals, clinics, labs -- with venture capital funding.

"For such chains, cloud-based software architecture is important," he said.

This is a big joke.Have u seen how Amul grew in to an international brand.I have seen how the milk cooperative works in Anand Gujarat. Thanks to the great administrator the late Verghese Kurien.Vijay diary in A.P and nandini in Bangaluru are more or less like Aavin. The icecream catered by Hatsun under Arun brand is very good better than Kwality andVadilal brands.

The Co operative Milk Societies (as they were called before the formation under Aavin Brand) of Tamil Nadu were doing really well.

TN Govt installed Milk Chilling & SToring plants ina ll major Milk Production Centres. All the Dairy Farmers were well paid (including my Periyappa who had 40 to 50 cows).

The Co operative Society Members were only from the respective sectors and no outsider was allowed.

Once the Dravidian parties entered into the Co operative Societies and started treating them as another money making machine, the quality deteriorated.

The Dairy Farmers who were regularly being paid on weekly basis had to accept payments even after a month or so, that too after paying a bribe. Some dairy farmers were also forced to dilute the milk with water to give more bribe to these party men.

During the 80s & 90s, the small dairy farmers have lost the clout and had to surrender totally to party men. In the name of centralisation, all their rights were usurped by the parties in power.

Now if you are not corrupt, you can not survive with Aavin. Many Dairy farmers have started giving to Private Milk Companies.

Artificial reefs to boost fish culture around city

In the past, specially-designed concrete blocks have been deployed along the coastal waters of Tuticorin district — Photo: N. Rajesh

Quote:
The fisheries department will soon introduce artificial reefs for fish culture in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.

Two sites, suitable for reef culture, have already been chosen in Kancheepuram.

“This is being done to help fishermen who don’t fish deep. Specially-designed concrete blocks are placed in chosen spots that have higher amounts of nutrients and are shallow. The location is chosen in such a way that it is not affected by trawling,” said an official in the department.

The State government has sanctioned Rs. 2.6 crore for introducing artificial reefs at 17 locations across the State and already, nine sites have been chosen. “Each block costs Rs. 15 lakh. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute is the consultant for the project and they are identifying the locations,” the official said.

The concrete blocks are placed within a 10-km distance from the shore, in places where the effect of estuaries can be felt. “The nutrient content will be higher at estuaries making it ideal for the young ones to feed. So these blocks will be placed near them. Some fish require proper places to breed and these reefs will help. If not their numbers would reduce,” explained an expert.

Meanwhile, the South Indian Fishermen’s Welfare Association has urged the State government to implement the artificial reefs immediately.

“Fishermen in Tiruvallurhave been affected by two thermal power stations and two ports. Sea erosion is also increasing by the day. Fishing activity has almost come to a standstill in areas including Ennore, Kattupalli and Pulicat due to industrial activity,” said K. Bharathi, president of the association.

He also said many fisherfolk who were provided jobs by the ports have not been made permanent employees and are engaged as contract workers.

“One person died recently and because he was a contract worker, his family cannot get any compensation or job. We urge the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that these workers get permanent jobs,” said Mr. Bharathi.

IN 1996, MK changed the Co-Op law to accomodate unrelated people in co-op societies. i..e for a Milk Co-op society, any non milk producing person can join. He did this to induct more party men and conquer the co-op societies through election. In my native Village Thirubhuvanam(near Kumbakonam) "Thico Silks" was a progressing silk saree weavers society. It got national award for one of its silk saree design called "Vana singharam". After 1996, lots of non weavers were taken into this society and DMK folks conquered the control of society. Now this society was spoiled so badly that the weavers moved to private silk saree business people only political thugs are sitting there as members and real weavers are forced to take sub contracts from this politicians.

Google to suspend operations at Motorola Mobility’s Chennai unit
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/...cle4186994.ece

Motorola Mobility, owned by Google, has decided to indefinitely suspend operations at its phone assembling plant in Chennai from February 2013 as part of its global cost reduction plan.

The Chennai facility, which began operations in 2008 with an investment of Rs 172 crore, was a customer fulfilment centre undertaking finishing, packaging and software installation. William Moss, Motorola Mobility's Director for Communications in Asia Pacific told Business Line that this decision would impact 76 jobs.

The decision to close down the Chennai facility has been done to streamline the supply chain of the company globally. This means that we are now fulfilling customer orders directly from factories, and we have no current or forecast production requirements that would require the continued use of our Chennai facility,” Moss said adding that the Company’s Research & Development operations in Bangalore and other corporate functions in India will continue.

“We know this is difficult for our colleagues who are impacted, and we are working with them to settle all dues, provide relief packages and to help them find other opportunities,” he said.

This comes a day after Motorola Mobility announced its plans to close down its unit in South Korea eliminating an estimated 500 jobs. The company has also sold its manufacturing facility in China to Flextronics. All of this has happened after Google acquired Motorola’s handset division for $ 12.5 billion in August of 2011.

On August 3, 2012, Motorola Mobility announced that it would reduce its headcount by approximately 4,000 out of a total of about 20,000 employees. Two-thirds of the reduction is set to occur outside of the U.S. In addition, Motorola plans to close or consolidate about one-third of its 90 facilities, as well as simplify its mobile product portfolio-shifting the emphasis from feature phones to more innovative and profitable devices.

"The decision to indefinitely suspend operations at the Chennai facility has been done to streamline the supply chain of the company globally. This means that we are now fulfilling customer orders directly from factories, and we have no current or forecast production requirements that would require the continued use of our Chennai facility,” Moss said adding that the Company’s Research & Development operations in Bangalore and other corporate functions in India will continue.

“Motorola understands how hard these changes will be for the employees concerned and is committed to helping them through this difficult transition. Motorola will be providing generous severance packages, as well as outplacement services to help the employees find new jobs,” it added. Google expects to incur a severance-related charge of no greater than $ 275 million globally.

Govt should take back the land given to them and give back to the original owners of those lands. Govt also should take back other things which were given at concessional rate.

Boss....don't get worked up...It was just a packaging center...created to fool us in thinking we have a manufacturing Centre in Chennai.

These are some of the gifts we got from M'Bro during his stewardship as IT minister.

Maraimalai Ngr-Tiruporur corridor to be developed
Quote:
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to develop 539 sqkm of the Marimalai Nagar-Tiruporur corridor and has asked Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority to prepare a detailed development plan.

The State government’s move has given a new lease of life to the project that had been lying in doldrums and CMDA sources confirmed to Express on Monday that the master plan was being prepared.

CMDA sources said the State government had issued a Government Order to take up the detailed development plan in the area, which has around 134 villages.

Interestingly, there won’t be any land acquisition and CMDA is studying the land use for every survey number. The development would be done as per the existing structure and there will be no displacements. “We will be regulating the existing land,” the CMDA sources said.

He, however, said there will be some changes in the land use pattern and the focus will be more on building infrastructure.

“The basic focus would be on road infrastructure development and water supply,” he said. The entire project is expected to take at least three years.

“The biggest issue is there are thousands of survey numbers, besides we have to find the land use pattern in the area and also get details about the exact owners of the land,” he said.

Ha ha. They don't open development centres everywhere. Google is the kind of company that recruits very few but the best engineers and coders around. And companies like Google look at consolidating overseas operations to fewer locations.
