It just means the ball is rolling, but don't get your hopes up.

When the old modernization bill was in effect from the start until the end, what happened to the AFP modernization plan?

If they want me to be happy, those eye candy should be in AFP Colors right here in Philippine soil and waters.

They should all just shut their traps because unless we see something that materializes out of it, they are fictional at best.

How many pages of this thread do we need to fully disappoint ourselves especially when they keep on failing to acquire important and strategic military assets they promised? They should just keep doing it until the actual invasion happens and let me see how they would react.

Papogi points and publicity mileage won't work unless they really get serious in the defense business.

The political strategy takes place already. Couple of weeks more before vacation takes place meaning to say any intervention of Pro-PGMA & leftist or TRO for this particular law will be delayed. This will push through!

They just sign the law without any specifically of what are they gonna buy first. This should be done earlier in the middle of the month rather than waiting for Christmas another wasting precious time.

Philippines, China tensions rising...Manila eyes greater US mly presence
Quote:
MANILA: US and Philippine officials will meet this week to discuss expanding American presence in the Asian nation, a senior diplomat said, amid tensions with China over its claims to vast waters in the region.

The meetings in Manila on Tuesday and Wednesday will have a special focus on defence and regional matters, Philippine Assistant Secretary for US affairs Carlos Sorreta told reporters.

“Foremost in the agenda is the increased rotational presence” of US forces in the Philippines, he said on Monday.

Indonesia donates $1M, 4 tons of relief goods for typhoon Pablo victims

By Marlon Ramos
Philippine Daily Inquirer
3:27 am | Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Quote:
MANILA, Philippines—The Indonesian government on Monday came to the aid of thousands of typhoon “Pablo” (Bopha) victims in the Visayas and Mindanao, donating $1 million and four tons of relief items through the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
AFP Chief of Staff Jesse Dellosa personally received the $1 million check from Admiral Agus Suhartono, chief of the Indonesian National Defense Force, in a brief ceremony held on Monday, at Camp Panakan in Davao City.
Dellosa, in turn, handed over the donation to Director Liza Mazo, head of the Office of Civil Defense in the Davao region.
“This contribution will surely be a big help to our people who currently need aid and assistance due to the devastation brought by Typhoon Pablo,” Dellosa said in an e-mailed statement.
He thanked the Indonesian government and Suhartono for extending assistance to the typhoon victims, saying the gesture “manifests the strong, vibrant and deepening relationship between our two countries and our two armed forces.”
Besides the financial aid, the Indonesian government also gave 1,000 military blankets, 3,000 packs of ready-to-eat meals and 50 boxes of instant noodles.
Suhartono, who arrived in Davao last Sunday for a three-day official visit, also signed the terms of reference of the Joint Understanding of Philippines-Indonesia Military Cooperation.
“The signing of (this agreement) is aimed at renewing and strengthening the enduring bilateral military relationship of the two countries’ armed forces,” Dellosa said.
Suhartono also met with Lt. Gen. Jorge Segovia, commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, and visited the base camp of the International Monitoring Team Site 5 in Davao City.
Malacañang bestowed the Philippine Legion of Honor to the visiting Indonesian military chief “for his strong commitment in deepening the military cooperation between the Philippines and the Indonesian military.”
The honor is the highest award that the President can give to a visiting foreign dignitary without a congressional approval.

Suhartono’s trip came a few days after General Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin, chief of Defense Forces of the Malaysian Armed Forces, visited the country on Dec. 5.
By maintaining a “strong and deep bilateral military cooperation” with its neighboring nations, Dellosa said the country “can definitely achieve peace, stability and progress in the region.”
“The (AFP) is committed towards promoting and enhancing regional peace and security which is why we are undertaking these high-level visits aimed at further strengthening our bilateral relationship with other countries’ military,” the AFP chief said.
“The AFP will aim to further strengthen our bond with the Indonesian National Defense Force and the Malaysian Armed Forces.”

Philippines Coast Guard detains 2 Chinese Taiwanese fishing boats Poaching Philippine Territory

Manila, Dec. 11 (CNA) Philippines coast guard officers have detained two Taiwanese fishing boats for allegedly entering the territorial waters of the Philippines, Taiwan's representative office in that country confirmed Tuesday.

As of the press time, the two ships were being towed toward Mati, capital of Davao Oriental province, the office said.

The boats, registered in Tungkang, Pingtung County, both have Taiwanese skippers.

The Philippines coast guard said it intercepted and boarded the fishing boats Monday and found a large "illegal fishing catch."

Taiwan's representative office in the Philippines confirmed the statement, and said it is making every effort to negotiate with the Philippine government to secure the release of the boats and their crews.

Under Philippines law, the penalty for fishing in the country's waters is a fine of US$100,000 and seizure of the catch, fishing gear and boats.

In addition, the Philippines fishery bureau may impose an administrative fine of between US$50,000 and US$200,000. Failure to pay the fine could result in imprisonment of six to 10 years.

Our eastern shores are virtually unguarded these guys are probably just the few unlucky one's that managed to get caught that far south meanwhile there's a vast and unpatrolled Phillippine sea out there ... .

Would an "ordinary fisherman" really venture that far especially given that the eastern shores are prone to typhoon?

Taiwan, I guess, is to "watch out" for.
