ETS, barely on time. From Ipoh, the train will stop for few minutes, few times once entered Rawang. Bought the Platinum ticket and expect 2 hour journey, in the end the train was 10 minutes off-schedule. I was told that's on a good day.

The problem lies in the stretch between Tg. Malim to K/L, the ETS always seem to SLOW down and sometimes even STOP in the middle of nowhere. Maybe they messed up the scheduling of the trains at this stretch. Somehow there are no problems between Ipoh to Tg. Malim and this is where the ETS can and do cruise at their intended operational speed ie; 140km per hour (and sometimes above it!).

Rawang-Tg Malim Komuter service

24/11/2012

- This service is becoming more popular, particularly weekends where people most often take train from these areas to KL for weekend hangout

- Nowadays as SCS (Six Car Set) had been progressively introduced in Klang Valley Komuter service, the older three car sets are now mostly deployed in Rawang-Tg Malim sector

- I no longer see Class 81 EMUs in service these days, while Class 82 still in service, but in very small numbers, the prime workhorse of this service is the Class 83

While I do think Klang Valley track section is crowded, I do think they could have done better in ensuring better timetable planning so that traffic conflicts can be minimised.

Maybe KTMB should hire 'experts' from either Indian, Chinese or Japanese railways immediately to come up with better timetable planning. I'm sure these people have lots of experience with their 'mature' systems.

KTM Bhd on track to profitability
By Sharen Kaur Published: 2012/12/10
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...#ixzz2EaJ174LI

KTM Bhd (KTMB) says the five-year business plan that it presented to the government recently is aimed at turning around the loss-making company into a profitable entity.

KTMB president Datuk Elias Kadir said the business plan includes improvements to the commuter train's delivery time and operational efficiency.

"The government is looking at the plan, which aims to improve the overall performance of KTMB's operations. We want to make our customers happy by providing efficient and reliable services.

"We need to improve the commuter services. We are struggling but are also definitely moving forward. We have great people who have been with KTMB for more than 10 years and they are working tirelessly to improve the company," Elias said at a briefing on the company's plan recently.

KTMB has been recording losses since it was corporatised in 1992 due to high operating costs. Nevertheless, it did make a net profit of RM9 million to RM15 million from 1993 to 1995, before falling into the red in the following years.

According to the Auditor-General's report tabled in Parliament in October, KTMB registered losses amounting to RM118.91 million in 2008 and RM82.81 million in 2007.

The report also stated that from 1994 to 2008, KTMB had sought government help in the form of cash fund injections totalling RM760 million.

Elias said KTMB is currently registering losses of up to RM220 million per annum, including RM60 million from the cargo business, which also happens to be its biggest revenue generator.

"Our biggest challenge is punctuality of the train services. Even if KTMB is making losses, it has to provide good services."

Elias took over as KTMB president in May and since then, the punctuality rate has improved from 17 per cent to 86 per cent.

The improvement was made possible with the cooperation of key KTMB officials and its non-executive staff, helped by the new six-car train sets purchased from China.

Elias said more than three million people use the KTM commuter services each month, adding that he expects the number to increase when the mass rapid transit (MRT) and light rail transit (LRT) line extension projects in the Klang Valley are completed.

"The proposed high-speed rail and the double tracking projects will also contribute to passenger growth as connectivity strengthens. KTMB, going forward, is going to be something else," Elias said.

Besides cargo and KTM commuter services, the company generates income through inter-city railway service and ocean shipping, road haulage and port clearance services.

This Datuk Elias guy is talking nonsense. Its efficiency and cut out the corruption, thats the only way to go. Remove all the 'deadwood' inside KTMB and bring in professionals. THEN we might see some improvements.

KERETAPI Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has been urged to set up its own tourism committee to help boost the country's tourism industry.

JOHOR BARU: Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, said as the facilitator of a public transportation with a wide train network in the country, KTMB could be effective in this field.

"KTMB can also devise its own tourism products. The coaches and the stations can be utilised for this," said Ng, after recently opening the Food Stalls Festival 2012 in Taman Johor Jaya, here. Also present were State Tourism, Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism committee chairman Datuk Hoo Seong Chang and Johor Jaya state assemblyman, Tan Cher Puk.

The three-day festival showcases 240 food stalls with more than 10 categories of food, including dairy, herbal and organic food.

Ng also urged food stall traders to improve the quality of their products as well as cleanliness of their environment. She said 20 per cent of the tourists coming to this country were led here by their curiosity in local cuisine.

Haha, it does look like colour of a bank

As you can see, the machine works for two different train services, intercity/ETS and the Komuter. The ETS/intercity ticket has barcode.

The ticket gate has a barcode reader for these tickets (ETS, Intercity).

No need for him to pay for it, it's an "invesment" by the gov . You can see the ads on tiang-tiang in komuter stations and on the komuter about him. Everytime I ride the komuter there's a 90 %(or 99.99%?) to meet his face.
