When the Turks will rebuild the roads in Mogadishu, will they at the same time rebuild te pavements? Or will they leave it like that and let the Somalis rebuild it?

I'm just curious as I've seen many roads filled with sand and many destroyed by the conflict.

In regards to the roads, will all of Mogadishu's roads be rebuilt, or only the main routes, because I don't think all of the roads in the city were ever paved in the first place, although I may be wrong. I just don't know much about the roads that's why I'm asking

^The Turks started to work on the main roads in the city such as the Makka Al Mukaramma and will gradually expand to include all the roads. And You are right, many areas in the city never had paved roads in the first place.

The Turkish Red Crescent and the Municipality of Istanbul are partnering in projects to help re-construct Mogadishu, Turkey's Anadolu Agency reported Tuesday (November 13th).


The two organisations have established a construction yard in the city, bringing 50 construction machines and trucks from Turkey.

The construction yard will produce concrete, paving stones and asphalt, said Kamil Kolabas, an official with the Municipality of Istanbul. "The construction yard will serve Somalia for a long time," he said. "We work to see Mogadishu as one of the modern capitals of Africa."

The Municipality of Istanbul plans to bring a team of 100 experts to accelerate to the construction project. Mumtaz Simsek of the Turkish Red Crescent said the construction yard has employed 250 people.

The Turkish Co-operation and Co-ordination Agency Administration (TIKA) will repair roads in Mogadishu, the agency's Somalia co-ordinator Abdulahad Kokdagi told the official Anadolu Agency on Tuesday (January 10th).

Roads will be asphalted, repaired and a new lighting system will be installed as part of Turkey's rebuilding efforts in Somalia, Kokdagi said. The works will be implemented by TIKA along with the Highways Directorate General, the Turkish Red Crescent and Istanbul municipality.

Kokdagi said representatives from his agency met with Somali officials and are preparing a report detailing what is needed to start the project.

I do hope the Turks will work with the Urban Planning department of Mogadishu. Especially to preserve the character of the centre of Mogadishu.

I do think they will be pragmatic and forget the details. Details such as the color of the pavement in the historic centre or the end of the pavements being curved and not sharp.

Man I love those wide streets and roads in Mogadishu. There is even room to ride on a bike!

When was Guriga Umada renovated? I doubt it was undamaged by the civil war
