Well, I've been to kampala and I remember going to buy fish by the lake. Maybe not the city centre but many kampala suburbs are along the lake (google maps). In terms of urban development along the Lake victoria basin, Wikipedia says Kampala> Kisumu> Mwanza> Entebbe.

What you are trying to refer here is called the greater Kampala metropolitan area which extends to a town called Port bell (one of the ports along the lake). However, the city of Kampala proper is too small to reach the shores of the lake.

Kisumu is recognized by the UN as a city, Mwanza is yet to be recognized as a city.........I respect Mwanza as a city but you make me laugh when you try to trash Kisumu in it's name.

Kampala is not at the shores of lake Victoria..Entebbe is. I studied in Kampala for my O-level and know its geography pretty well. Ask Ugandans and they will tell you the same thing.

Mwanza> Kisumu >Entebbe.

Mwanza metropolitan has the population of ove 2.5M and this is according to the 2002 census..right now, it should be in 3.5-4 Million. Its GDP is second to Dar I think..It beats those two cities above.

Some cities have very large boundaries encompassing large rural areas whose population is considered to be part of the city hence some ridiculous populations.....for example, if we were to go with that kind of criteria, Chongqing in China would be the largest city in the world with over 30M people beating the likes of Tokyo and NY....yet in reality, the number of people in Chongqing living in a real urban area is just 8M. You should realize that a city like Nairobi for instance has a small boundary such that a huge chunk of it is not within the boundaries ...Saying Mwanza has 4M people is just being insane, are you trying to say Mwanza is the same size as Nairobi? Try and be a little realistic.
am 100% sure the number of people living in an urbanized region in mwanza is not anything more than 500k otherwise Mwanza would be a way more important city on the continent than what it is.
