What are you voting on the constitutional referendum?

Please only answer poll if you are Egyptian and eligible to vote.

Also, don't let this thread turn into debate/argument, we already have the threads in the Sky Ahwa for that. Just simply say what you are voting, why and that's it. If you're not voting, please also explain why.

I'm personally voting No. This is because I believe the constitution was rushed, the assembly was un-representative. I have no rights under this constitution, on the contrary I can face persecution. I also have concerns over the restrictions on women's and minority rights, restrictions on freedom of press and expression and about the status of military in civilian life.

I'm not entirely sure if I can vote or not, I do have an ID card but I'm only 17. I wont vote in the poll since I probably wont vote IRL but if I would I would definitely vote no, for the same reasons that you mentioned.

If this constitution is rejected then I might be 18 in time for the next referendum (I assume that it will take at least half a year for the actual constitution to finish after the Constituent Assembly is elected by the people), if not, then maybe the parliamentary elections. My 18th birthday is in ten months.

I shall vote ‘no’.

The draft of the new constitution does not reflect the core value and true identity of the Egyptian populace. It is in every sense a lipserving religious, and thus by default, undemocratic document.

Reason?
Voting ''NO'' means i am willing to vote and will accept the results.

I am not voting because i refuse the legitimacy of the constitutional committee, i refuse the constitution written under such circumstance same as the referendum under such condition.

And i refuse to vote when i hear about 200 000 exposed Ballot cards that are marked "Yes" for referendum

Indeed, well said. But you got Egyptian citizenship or what?

Boycotting is useless. It's going to happen either way, boycotting just helps them win. I'm pretty sure voting "No" mean you refuse the constitution and its legitimacy, hence why you're against it...

Egypt to hold referendum in two stages due to shortage of judges

Egypt announced early on Wednesday that the upcoming constitutional referendum will be held in two stages, Dec. 15 and Dec. 22 due to a shortage of judges needed to oversee the process.

The decision came hours after the country’s Judges Club decided to boycott the process, refusing to oversee the planned plebiscite.

Boycotting is never a good idea; Islamists are already drumming up their 'loyal' supporters, just to turn up, and a voter turnout of 30 per cent or less is all that is needed for the result to be viewed as legitimate.

(loyal in the context means accepting of ten of thousands of grain and rice and tea and pasta for free, sponsored by salafist foreign regimes)

On the other hand, participating in the referendum is not without risk. If the majority votes yes, it will be a victory in Morsy’s war of perception and non-Islamists will definitely look like the minority.

Saturday.

I just printed my ballot and declaration this morning and re-reading the constitution and I'll decide from there.

So what are you going to vote now? (feel free to share it in the poll).

I just mailed my "No" vote to the Embassy in Ottawa.

I'm voting yes,

Don't get me wrong, I do disagree with some of he articles, like Article 1, 3, 10 and 43 for example. but then TBH i don't see the next constitutional assembly that'll draft a new constitution if the majority voted no, changing most of these articles I disagree with. for example I don't see them get rid of that Egypt is an Arab state and that Egypt's official name is Arab Republic of Egypt.

It's just not going to happen, let's be real. at least not now. infact what made me vote yes is that if someone wants to change an articles or more than one article in the constitution only 1/5 of the parliament need to support it. and 1/3 of the parliament need to agree to the changes for a referendum to take place. Thus over time when people learn the constitution will change to the better.

One more thing why I voted yes, this way Morsi have no excuses to wether we have a constitution or parliament or whatever.

I'm voting today. And obviously my vote will be a no for reasons I've stated many times in the constitution thread.

But in short....disastrous articles: 2,3,4,10,11,12,25,29,31,43,48,70,166,173,176,177,199,215,219,230,231.

Morsi will have more power than Hosny Mubarak had. If the constitution is approved, be aware the first thing he will do is appoint 15 prosecutor of his choice in the constitutional court. Morsi has appointed himself the supreme authority of security and the army according to the constitutional draft. I have no problem if he calls himself the supreme chief of the army (whatever it's called) but i simply hate the fact that he named himself the supreme chief of the security for several reason but the main one is:

The constitution draft will drastically reduce the cabinet power giving them mostly to Morsi. MB were smart on this, they reduced the cabinet power so they give the right to the parliament to dissolve the ministry.

Now imagine if liberals took over the parliament and they decided to sack Hesham Qandil. At this point Morsi will have the right to dissolve the parliament.

I think it might go against liberals if the parliament needed 1/5 to modify the constitution as Islamist are aware of their minority on ground.

I am definitely voting no.
