Agreed, a little mixed use could go a long way on Bayshore. Perfect example, the Nade...nothing beats the late afternoon/evening views from there.

But when/if the demand is there, you have to move "something else" to another location in your building. So, you still start with lots of square footage that isn't rentable/leasable.

you mean the Colonade right? That's a pefect example of how you don't need to be too high up to get a decent veiw of the water.

This would have been a great spot for a new tallest on Bayshore (like 30 floors) but God forbid One Bayshore gets dwarfed. I've been inside One BS and the views are just OK, not really spectacular. You either look at the TGH helicopter pad with a choppy water view or look at the same old 90's view of DT. Anyway thank God it is concrete/steel construction. As always, expect delays. For those who live close by, please give updates.

There should be a minimum standard. Maybe something as small as 1,000sqft of ground floor commercial for every 100,000 sqft of residential space. Say this place has 367 units which average 600sqft per unit. That would mean the developer only has to provide a scant 2,200sqft of commercial space.

Providing even this small amount won't kill the project's numbers in terms of getting it financed, but it would provide for enough commercial activity to cut down on the potential for traffic, and provide a more vibrant urban neighborhood.

I think this is shit for the gateway to downtown for the south. The people from 345 had too much influence and they were mostly renters. Another epic failure to allow this to be built on such a prime piece of realestate. While we are at it lets allow a car dealership on bay shore.

yeah it could have been better (taller) but as mentioned before, at least it will not be frame construction. It will look better than what used to be there.

I noticed a couple of portable offices on this property. Have they always been there or is this something new? I don't recall ever seeing them before. Hopefully some real construction can start before the new year.

Those went in last week. Construction fencing is going up now, and utility crews have been running overhead power lines to the site for the last couple of weeks. Looks like they're gearing up.

Saw a guy operating a payloader there yesterday. That was around 4:30pm. There may have been others working earlier. Slow but at least something. Will caissons be needed for this height/location? Can't wait to see concrete and rebar laying around instead of plywood.

Yeah, they started with the construction trailers and clearing the site about a month ago but now they have just kinda stopped and nothing much is happening. Strange.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was cancelled. Money problems/Politics?

It could just be slow due to the holidays. It's hard to get things done around this time of year. With gasparilla coming up as well they may be holding off until afterwards.

They can put it on hold indefinitely. Such a low density building should not be there. A high rise needs to be there of some sort

^I totally agree. This project being delayed or killed ain't hurting my feelings. The design pretty much sucks.

It looks kinda like Sarasota in the late 70's.

Crane there now and an auger (I think) that was left in the ground. Looks like the underground stuff is getting started.
