I have had the opportunity to be In many state of the art hotels where I have lived but whenever and wherever I see Indian Coffee House I can't resist the temptation to go and have a coffee. It's an old habit. Old habits die hard.

Contd from my previous post.....whenever I eat a masala Dosa I compare it with the taste of Masala Dosa in Bharat Coffee house in Broadway which I ate in 1974. Whenever I eat Chinese I compare it with what I had in the same period from Malaya and whenever I have Biriyani I compare it with what I had from Ceylon Bake house . But those tastes still remain nostalgic. Nothing has ver come close to those tastes except maybe for Biriyani in Sanyo opposite Town Hall.

Madras Cafe is demolished and now used as Parking lot for Seematti, that faces Banerjee Road. With its acquisition, Seematti now has 3 entrances.

Where is Malaya?

Where is Celylon Bake House?

I want to taste, if it is still there. I assume you are talking about Kochi.

Is Sanyo still operating?

Bharat Coffee house in broadway does not have the same quality as it had before. I recently had a dosa there. When it comes to South Indian vegetarian food there is no restaurant which can beat Gokul Ootupura. That too moderately priced. This group is one of the best things which happened in the hotel sector in Kochi.

Earlier BTH was the only dining option for South Indian vegetarian but now there are lots of options Gokul, Anugraha, and lot more. BTH has lost its monopoly now. The quality of food too declined.

Same with Biriyani and Chinese

There are many good restaurants which have come up in Kochi now which are far better than old ones.

Not exactly demolished... the structure still stands and is used as Seemati's staff canteen....

The old Ceylon Bake House at Woodlands Jn has been evicted by the building owners. The hotel is now relocated a little inside, opposite the south gate of SRV school on SRV High Schhol Rd between MG Road & Chittoor Road. Ceylon Bake House also has a newer outlet at MG Road, opp Avenue Regent, but this is nowhere as good as the SRV Road one. Incidentally, there is a third Ceylon Bake House, actually the oldest in the chain but the least popular, opposite the KTDC Complex and at the Press Club Rd - Park Avenue Jn.

Taste buds differ, but for me, the biriyani at Ceylon Bake House was never anything great to write about. Rather the other options, especially the Butter Chicken is world class.

Malaya is long dead, but another Chinese restaurant still operates from the same premises @ Madhava Pharmacy Jn.

Never heard of Sanyo.

Its Sanjo and not Sanyo. They are still functioning but more in the likes of frys village targeting an office going regular crowd.

Malaya is at Byepass opposite EMC. they offer relatively authentic stuff at cheap rates

Chiyang is mallu chinese and nothing more....chilly chicken, fried rice , porotta etc

golden dragon is a bit more chinese than malaya

inchino(wangs) cheaper alternative to mainland china

mainland china : Probably best chinese in town

PS:
1 yet to check the new thingy at taj gateway
2 Tibetan at fort kochi is worth a shot

Milano Ice Cream debuts in India at Kochi

Quote:
Italian ice-cream brand Milano is all set to open its first Indian outlet in Kochi on Friday.

Sara Calderoni and Giancario Segalini, directors of the company, said that Milano is home-made, fresh, 100 per cent vegetarian and organic. The ice-cream producing unit and display console were already brought from Italy to make the product maintain its fresh appeal.

Certain ingredients are imported and rest of the items will be locally purchased from reliable vendors in the city.

To make the brand a household name, she said the company plans to offer local flavours, free home delivery, offer for children below 10 years during Christmas and New Year. The company will offer 24 flavours.

Asked why the company chose Kochi, Sara said she is familiar with the city since 2004 for her various business ventures in coir and jute. Besides, the city has the potential to accept any new brand because of its cosmopolitan look.

The tropical climate and spending capacity of the new young generation in this mini metro will make ice cream a much sought-after item, she added.
