Does look like there are changes in cladding and layout, and I don't want to be a bum, but its not good....

The existing building will be partly re-clad to reflect its new
use as a Hotel and enhance its sustainability credentials
and criteria. The building is upgraded and utilized in
to retain those elements that are practical and only to
demolish those elements that are entirely redundant and/

It looks as if the existing facade will receive a good scrub up then. On the brightside, the operators of a 4* hotel will not want to be housed in a tip?

I'm with Luke - as long as the low level stuff gets a proper make-over and we're still getting a hotel with some changes but still a top floor bar, I'm happy-ish. It's that temp carpark at the rear I'm questioning.

It's a make-over with an extension on the top floor. It's a glorified office-into-a-hotel classic but I'd like to see it be a success so let's be a little optimistic. There's still going to be another top floor bar in town!

It just doesn't look sleek, it actually looks like a budget hotel now, the windows just don't flow as well.

Dissapointed were not getting the original plans but it still looks a huge improvement and I'm just glad they've kept the rooftop restaurant and sky bar


They've also dropped the large retail unit which is a disappointment as I'd have thought they could have got waitrose, M&S simply food or booths interested.

The D&A statement says they will demolish the block on the side of the tower fronting tenant street as a surface car park until the development is complete when phase 2 wil start, rebuilding this half with the conference centre.

They've also dropped the spa which I'd have thought would have done well

The windows will be ghosted like Cumberland and Kennedy before someone says it looks nothing the renders...

Just holding out for a top quality hotel for five ways tower!

A real dissappointment would have give the hotel a bit more than the average, got a 3 star feel now

Same here, or it could be lack of sleep...

But it's gone from being a potentially exciting scheme to just 'inoffensive'. One of the qualities of the previous design was the variety of materials and textures. That's been completely lost.

I wasn't a big fan of the roof extension on the original design because it just looked like it had been lumped on top of it. The same goes for the current one but now it looks extremely bland. I'd explore the possibility of setting the extension back from the edge a bit and adding a cantilevered roof similar to what is there already to give it a bit of interest.

It's frustrating that the render has the whole "lights on, lights off" effect going on with the windows in the tower so that it actually looks more interesting than it probably will.

Yes it's an improvement on what's there now, but it's really bland. The previous design had qualities that could have made it a local landmark, this design slips the building back into obscurity. Disappointing.

It looks like the height of the roof top extension as been lowered. Not happy about the phasing of the project, that sounds like the money is already drying up...still be surprised if this happens at all

Why does the D&A access statement only have one decent render? That Broad Street view is important, but surely the gateway aspect of this proposal would demand a set of renders including views from the Hagley Road and Lee Bank Middleway?
