Public Consultation on Plot E3 – Share Your Views Here

ECf held a public consultation event on Thursday 13th September inviting views from the public on their proposals for Plot E3; you can see the information boards here.

The proposal, known at the moment as Plot E3, will provide a complete street block of new buildings ranging from 6-storeys fronting Chapel Street to 3-storeys on Barrow Street. The buildings will contain new apartments, townhouses and commercial premises, including a local convenience store. The main facades and distinctive roof of the existing Bell Tower building are being retained and refurbished as part of the development, retaining part of the character of the street.

Even though the consultation event has finished we still very much would like to hear your views on the proposals and invite you to contact the team. In the first instance please contact Richard Purser, DPP (scheme planning consultants) either via email (richard.purser@dppukltd) or by telephone 0161 247 8555.

This is the next step to bringing new development to Chapel Street and we hope to receive your support to help us build the future of Salford Central.

Did this get PP? Site was being excavated yesterday, 19th C foundations exposed.

E3 is at committee next week, recommended approve. Springfield Lane/Urban Splash however does not appear on the agenda.

Has anyone seen this page before - From the main picture It looks like a lot of development between the line of the inner relief road and the river to the left of New quay street as you head out of the city centre, which I think ties in with Middlewood locks?

Yes I thought that - but this appears to be opposite Granada, wheras I thought the New Bailey development was off New Bailey Street opposite Spinningfields - its obvioulsy much bigger than i imagined!

Work has been going on at the Canopus site today, the diggers have been digging and it sounded quite busy, I imagine they are just tidying the site up

A PLANNING application for the first part of the £650m Salford Central regeneration has been approved.

The proposals - for an area off Chapel Street adjacent to the Bell Tower pub - involve a block of six to three-storey apartments and retail units fronting onto Chapel Street. The pub will be kept and refurbished.

Known as plot E3, the area sits between Chapel Street, Islington Way, Barrow Street and Wroe Street.

Phil Mayall, development director at the English Cities Fund, said: “Plot E3 is the first of a number of sites ECf will be developing as a part of the wider Salford Central regeneration scheme and we’re delighted to have secured planning permission for this major project.

“We have been working closely with the local community and Salford Council on these plans for a number of years and it’s great news for all concerned that the transformation of Chapel Street can now begin.”

Salford City Council’s assistant mayor for strategic planning, councillor Derek Antrobus, said: “This is a great leap forward in the Chapel Street regeneration. Our investment in improving the quality of the environment is starting to pay off. New shops will benefit local people and the new homes will meet the needs of our growing population.”

A key development proposed as part of multi-million pound plans to regenerate Salford has been given the green light by Councillors.

Now approved, Plot E3, which lies between Chapel Street, Barrow Street, Wroe Street and Islington Way, will become the site for 14 new townhouses, 83 apartments and commercial premises, including a convenience store for the area.

The plans were submitted by English Cities Fund (ECf), which is delivering the Chapel Street and New Bailey proposals. Work is expected to begin in spring 2013 and will see the area transformed. A complete block of new buildings will be constructed, ranging from six storeys fronting onto Chapel Street, to three storeys facing Barrow Street.

Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “Plot E3 is the first of a number of sites ECf will be developing as a part of the wider Salford Central regeneration scheme and we’re delighted to have secured planning permission for this major project.

When complete, Salford Central – which is made up of two inter-dependent, but distinct areas, Chapel Street and New Bailey – will create around 11,000 new jobs, 220,000 square metres of commercial space, 849 new homes and 390 hotel rooms.

Salford Central – a major 44 acre regeneration scheme – is set to transform a key area of the city. The scheme is being delivered by ECf – a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and The Homes & Communities Agency – working closely with development partner, Salford City Council.
