Coming into Manchester this evening - it is a really peculiar tower in the evening/night. It has a mysterious presence.

You can just about see the outline of the clusters which make up the tower and then the lights (from the rooms) on the east facade.

Not sure if this is actually a compliment, but I really like this tower at night. I think it fits in really well with the street below, anyway.

Is this building actually fronting on to a back street?

Fronts onto Great Marlborough Street. Can this be moved to completed section now?

So now it's finished.
I always thought the key to this was the way it integrated into the street itself and IMO it does that well.
I love the concept of the tower, a bit of a triumph on such a tiny plot.

IMO though, the cladding lets it down badly. It's telling that so many people think it looks better in the dark and I agree with that.
Hopefully it will mellow with time.

As student towers go, I reckon it looks good.

Yeah the cladding does look pretty poor, but compared with alot of student towers, I think it isn't all that bad.

Its not like this :\

The Beetham would look so much better with the 'blade' lit up at night. The pinnacle of the Shard is lit up at night too.
