Throw away line on ABC news but startling when you think about it, theres 11% less capacity in the US domestic aviation sector today than there was in 2005 with smaller planes and lower frequency of flights.

Well if the news report was right, looking at the total traffic movements in the US, taking into account 2012 will be up on 2011 and similar to 2005, then US airlines are filling many more seats which is a good thing for them.

Just chatting to a mate in the industry - rumours of Virgin trialling a Manchester base. They've got a couple of routes that they want to open up from Manchester and so it would warrant a base operation. Will keep you posted with any further info I can drag out of him.

PPrune mentions Afriqiyah Airways starting a service to MAN, did Libyan ever restart their service? Couldn't see their being the demand for two airline services to Tripoli unless it's planning on being some sort of North African hub.

I'm not that familiar with the logistics of these types of things but from the conversation I had with my mate it seems that virgin want to trial it for six months. Because MAN isn't a 'hub' they have to send crew from London to MAN to operate their flights. The purpose of them opening a hub operation would be to have crew based permanently at MAN.
Not sure how a six month trial would work but that's the info I got from a pilot friend. Can only be good for MAN! In terms of routes - they didn't have any info on particular routes but we thought cancan and maybe India? |

Virgin Atlantic has had a MAN base for years. Crew and aircraft are all based at the airport. The odd rotation into MAN is operated by LGW/LHR crews but otherwise your flight to MCO/LAS/BGI will be operated by local crew. At least cabin crew anyway but I'm almost certain it's a flight crew base as well.

MEN had article about profits rising further.
This prostitution lark seems very profitable compared to the business model many other airports operate

Lets hope some of those profits get re-invested soon. The Airport still needs a lot of investment in infrastructure to get it up to standard.
