Thats a good news... Btw does anyone know what happended to the JaguarLandrover showroom? i remember it ling back seeing an add in THE HINDU by JLR that they are looking for dealers in Trivandrum, and one of the fellow members posted a while after that the dealership was obtained by Sree Dhanya.. But no further updates came after it... Is it coming on the commercial space coming infront of sree Dhanya Planet x?

All these people, whether Subway, McDonalds, KFC, Star Bucks, etc. are here to do business. They will be scanning the entire country for opening outlets and growing business and are more interested in opening outlets than the public wanting them to do so. While potential to generate business will always be a critical requirement for opening outlets, there are very many other factors which also one would consider. These would only prioritize opening of outlets. Eventually you will have all these guys across the state and country. They just can’t afford not to do so; else they will be wiped out by competition (Yes, they will also close down an outlet without a wink, if they find the same not contributing.) . I am really at loss to understand people considering opening of an outlet by one of them as an indicator of the stature/importance of the city or town in which it is opened. Forget cities/towns, you find them now in villages - on highways.

Absolutely. I agree with you. I find it very surprising that people get into an argument on a piddly sandwich joint opening somewhere in the city. Starting on its world-class dream trip


The long wait to start the work to make Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station world-class will end on Monday, when automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM) will be commissioned and the blueprint for a new booking office will be unveiled.

The railway station is the biggest in the State. “We are preparing to take up the interventions being planned on a massive scale in 2013 and to make the central station world class by 2014,” Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agrawal told The Hindu.

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor will commission the two ATVMs, the first in the State, that are expected to reduce chaos prevailing near the railway booking office at Thampanoor.

The ATVMs are among the 10 being installed,for this, ‘smart cards’ will be used for the first time in the State, which has been specially designed and developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems.

The new railway booking office will come up beneath the reservation office.

The existing eight booking counters are congested, and the queues spill over outside the concourse, often affecting the vehicle movement in front of the station.

“This area will be vacated so that the booking counter area can be converted into an executive lounge by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Hotels and Resorts,” Mr. Agrawal said.

The cash office, situated near the entry to the foot-overbridge on platform one, has been vacated for housing the booking office.

Mr. Agrawal said the ground floor would be converted into a new booking office with 12 counters, a lounge area and a walking concourse with shelter.

Being taken up under a special collaborative scheme between the Union Ministries of Railways and Tourism, the attempt is to create modern, world-class infrastructure and facilities.

14 major items

Under this, 14 major items of work for infrastructure development, augmenting passenger facilities and transforming existing levels of customer care, cleanliness and punctuality will be taken up.

Interventions will be particularly in the areas of architecture, ambience and access.

Besides constructing the booking office and an executive lounge, the areas identified for improvement are waiting and retiring rooms, pay-and-use toilets, garbage disposal, cloak room facilities, signage, circulating area and providing access to the disabled. VIP entry from the Nagercoil end, a VIP lounge, and VIP parking, separate parking for two- and four-wheelers and autorickshaws, landscaping, toilet block at the Pettah end, extension of a skywalk to the upcoming KSRTC complex, foot-overbridge at the Nagercoil end, escalators and lifts and integrated surveillance system are also being planed.

Fund outlay

Already, Rs.10 crore has been earmarked for the works to be taken up during 2012-13. Mr. Agrawal said the division was able to manage additional funds for the ATVMs and Rs.5 crore from the State for the skywalk extension.

Visa on arrival at Thiruvananthapuram airport soon




THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC 24:
Visa on Arrival facility will be introduced at the Thiruvananthapuram Airport within a month, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, K G Venugopal said today.

Air India and AI Express flights that were cancelled owing to pilot shortage would be restored as soon as the pilot shortage problem was addressed, he said after a meeting to discuss development issues connected with the Airport.

“We have prepared an action plan to address the pilot scarcity within four months,” Venugopal said.

The meeting decided to install one more aerobridge in ten months and introduce in-line baggage handling system at the international terminal by June.

The meeting also decided to prepare a concept for developing the terminal as a multi-modal hub with rail, water and road connectivity.

The new radar system for the Thiruvananthapuram airport would be commissioned by April. Issues pertaining to cargo clearance were taken up with the customs authorities, he added.

Air India Express maintenance, overhaul and repair facility would be fully operational by February once the DGCA’s final clearance was received.

The Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other senior state officials and Airports Authority of India representatives attended the meeting.

എയർപോർട്ട് അഥോറിട്ടി ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ തിരുവനന്തപുരം വിമാനത്താവളത്തിന്റെ വികസനവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു നടന്ന ചർച്ചയ്ക്കുശേഷം സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു മന്ത്രി.
വിമാനങ്ങളുടെ അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണി നടത്തുന്ന യൂണിറ്റ് ഫെബ്രുവരിയോടെ പ്രവർത്തന സജ്ജമാകും. നിരവധി കമ്പനികൾ യൂണിറ്റിന്റെ അനുബന്ധ വികസന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കു താൽപര്യം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു മുന്നോട്ടു വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. കമ്പനികളുമായി ഇക്കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചർച്ച ചെയ്തു വരികയാണ്.
കമ്പനികളുടെ പദ്ധതി നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾ യാഥാർഥ്യമായാൽ 2020 ഓടെ 2500 കോടി നിക്ഷേപം സാധ്യമാകുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലെ എയ്റോ ബ്രിഡ്ജ് സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത് പത്തു മാസത്തിനകം പൂർത്തിയാകും. നിലവിലെ അഞ്ച് എയ്റോബ്രിഡ്ജുകൾക്ക് പുറമേയാണിത്.
ആഭ്യന്തര ടെർമിനലിൽ പുതിയ സി.സി ടി.വി സംവിധാനം മാർച്ച് മാസത്തോടെ സ്ഥാപിക്കും. ഇൻ ലൈൻ ബാഗേജ് സംവിധാനം ജൂൺ മുതൽ ആരംഭിക്കുമെന്നും മന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. വിദേശ ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകൾക്ക് വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽനിന്നു വിസ ലഭിക്കുന്ന വിസ ഓൺ അറൈവൽ സംവിധാനത്തിന് ഒരു മാസത്തിനകം അനുമതി ലഭിക്കുമെന്നാണു പ്രതീക്ഷ. മറ്റു രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും രാജ്യത്തെ മറ്റു വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങളിൽ ഈ സംവിധാനം നിലവിലുണ്ടെങ്കിലും സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ആദ്യമായാണു നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്.
വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ പുതിയ റഡാർ സംവിധാനം സ്ഥാപിക്കും. ഇതിനുള്ള ഓർഡർ നൽകി കഴിഞ്ഞു. വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ മൾട്ടി മോഡൽ ഹബ്ബ് സ്ഥാപിക്കുമെന്ന് മന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. നിരവധി ശാസ്ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ തലസ്ഥാനത്തുണ്ട്. ഇവയുടെ സാധ്യതകൾ പരമാവധി ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്താനാണ് ഹബ്ബ് സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്. സാധ്യതാ പഠനത്തിനായി റോഡ് ഫണ്ട് ബോർഡിനെ ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തി. പാർവ്വതീപുത്തനാറിൽ കോവളത്തുനിന്നും ശംഖുമുഖം ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് ക്രൂയിസ് സംവിധാനം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രാഥമിക പഠനം ആരംഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ടൂറിസം വികസനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി റോഡ് റെയിൽ മാർഗങ്ങളുടെ സംയോജനം സാധ്യമാകുന്ന പദ്ധതികളും തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
എയർപോർട്ടിന്റെ വികസന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് ഭൂമി നൽകേണ്ടതെന്ന് മന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ ചർച്ചകൾ പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണ്. രാജീവ് ഗാന്ധി ഫ്ളൈയിംഗ്ക്ല ബ്ബിന്റെ പരാതികൾ എയർപോർട്ട് അഥോറിട്ടി ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ പരിഹരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. എയർഇന്ത്യ വെട്ടിക്കുറച്ച സർവീസുകൾ ഉടൻ പുനസ്ഥാപിക്കും.
പൈലറ്റുമാരുടെ അഭാവം കാരണം ഇനി സർവീസുകൾ വെട്ടിക്കുറയ്ക്കാതെ നോക്കാൻ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കും.
