The only thing I don't like about the holidays is... No work means no progress thus makes the forums quite boring.

Not as Dominant as the old twins? One and 2 are just about the same height, and there is a lot more. I just wish 2 was built with One.

You all can be quite a nuisance comparing incomplete buildings to the twins. You cannot cast a fair judgement until you see the finished product.

This makes no sense as 1 and 2 are literally almost as tall as the Twins were AND there's two more towers.

Having two towers creates more of a massive mountain in the skyline whereas having four makes it tend to plateau a little more.

My problem with this complex it's that it's trying too hard to keep up with the trends, and that's so unlike New York.. NYC starts trends, they should have built something more memorable and unique as opposed to a corner full of shiny glass towers.

i think the twins dominated more because their was only 2 of them

and i think with 3 and 4 wtc its kind of like a descending trend like u have 1 wtc then 2 then u go downhill into 3 (which is shorter then that pic above) and 4 then the rest

Don't forget that there are new buildings in the area that changed the skyline, like GS

I totally agree. Anyway, this comparison also shows a much more dense skyline in the new situation, which is also a bonus.

I think the Twins dominated because of the era in which they were built. They symbolized a time when America had the biggest and the best of everything. When you looked at them you weren't just looking at twin skyscrapers, you thought of American pride, dominance, wealth and greatness.

The new complex is still symbolic, just with a very different meaning - hope, rebuilding, perseverance, remembrance, etc.

I think the twins were more dominating per tower then one of the new towers, but as a whole the new complex is more dominating, and as said there are other towers around now.

The Twin Towers also appears to be more dominant than the new towers because they contrasted with the surrounding buildings. They were these grey slabs that sometimes appeared white around mostly dark or earth toned buildings. The new towers simply complements the newer glassy downtown skyline. I appreciate both either way.

But unfortunately WTC2 and 3 aren't built yet. So it's still dreaming until the 20's I think...

In my opinion the fact why the Twins were so much more impressive was that they were built as the tallest buildings in the world. The new complex doesn't even try to get close to the title. In fact, it doesn't even have the title of the tallest in the country. The new complex is in my opinion absolutely devoid of any kind of visionary or iconic value. It is just a complex of tall and very good looking office buildings arranged by a rather bad site plan.

Also, both 1WTCs aside, three shorter buildings are far less dominating than one taller building.

well when they designed it the tallest in the world was 508m if im not mistaken, the burj wasn't built yet, so technically they did want to have the worlds tallest, i highley doubt they would have thought that today something 1368 feet isnt impressive, and something 1776 feet isnt all that impressive in other countries either.

Another bad thing is that it took them so long to finally get the rebuilding started. If I would have been in a position that matters (like the president or head of the PANYNJ) the whole complex would be finished by the fifth aniversary of 9/11. This complex is about the American pride so all the delays are outrageous in my opinion.
