Skydwellers: how well do you know your neighbours?

The place I live know I know who's on my floor, but besides greeting each other in the elevator hall way there isn't much interaction going on. In Marina City I knew my neighbours better, but I guess is that's because we had amenities like a little supermarket downstairs, a shared laundry room and other places where you would meet more often.

In the city I have never known my neighbours, other then the casual talk. That was different when I lived in a small village.

I know a few only, specially some good looking girls 2 floors above me, and 3 below, I'm kinda very open in that aspect .

Seriously, Jan you're right, hard to make friends in a world that spins faster than an electron, in the US where I used to live they tend to keep to themselves, out of 25 houses in my street, I only met 2 families in a period of 10 years. I had more friends from other cities than my own neighborhood.

Over here it's polite to greet your neighbours but nobody really knows each other, especially in larger apartment buildings. In my current building, I kind of know who lives in my staircase but I don't really talk to them.

But I wouldn't say it's always different in small city. My father lived in a private house in a small town near Tallinn for 11 years and he only talked to the neighbours in adjacent buildings and even that very rarely

I am not a big fan of neighbour interaction but my neighbours are so you can't escape their chitchat urge even if it's just for an elevator ride.

The Southern US is for the most part an extremely sociable environment and it's not for those who aren't very sociable.

Some places are just the same, people tend to keep to themselves in a way.

Same here. Probably also because people don't stay long here and there are few occasions to meet each other.

I've seen every body who lives on my floor, and will say hello to them... but that is about as far as the interaction goes. We keep to ourselves, and they to them selves.

i know some of my neighbors, one of whom is a friend of mine. but i think everyone in the building knows about the FHM model who lives on the 3rd floor and the daughter of the former dictator on the 4th

Unfortunately, I don't know my neighbors a lot. Actually, I recognize only one woman living on my floor (and there are eight flats on the floor). I guess that's because most of dwellers are pensioners and they don't go out really often. Anyway, I can say the other people living in my building know themselves quite a lot! We have a shop next to the lobby and every time I shop there, all those all ladies greet each other and chat.

I'm looking forward to see how it will go when I move to a newly built apartment coming spring.
Everybody will be new there, which will result in new group dynamics.
