Negros Occ. to host national dairy congress, expo
January 15, 2013

The Province of Negros Occidental will host the 16th Dairy Congress and Expo on Feb. 7-9, 2013 at the New Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel and Restaurant, where about 400 participants from the dairy and livestock industries expected to attend the two-day event.

Gov. Alfredo Maranon, Jr. said the choice of the province as congress host is a recognition by the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines, headed by Juan P. Lozano, that the dairy and livestock sectors in Negros Occidental are alive and well.

“With the arrival of experts and industry leaders for the national event next month, Negros Occidental will be on the dairy and livestock map again. This is a rare opportunity for us to showcase our Negros First Livestock Development Program to the nation,” Gov. Maranon added.

The DairyCon and its event partner, the Negros Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (NEFEDACO), are thanking the provincial chief executive for accepting the hosting rights.

Coordinating the staging of the national congress with DairyCon and NEFEDACO is Dr. Renante Decena, head of the Provincial Veterinarian Office.
Decena said the event is also a venue for local dairy and livestock stakeholders, including farmers and beneficiaries, to join the expo and various activities.

Between 20 to 30 booths will be made available for Bacolod City and Negros-based exhibitors.

Organizers said they are inviting former Sen. Ramon Magsaysay, a staunch dairy advocate, to keynote the Feb. 7-9 affair.*

there is also a national convention on the same date at planta hotel and residences. a friend of mine who is a professor in one of the universities in manila will be there to attend. dulungan convention sa convention city bacolod.

URC earmarks P5B for capex

POWER PLANTS BESIDES
The company’s 2013 capex, however, excludes spending on two planned power plants.

“The above-mentioned budget does not include the capex for the ongoing construction of an ethanol plant amounting to P1 billion, and a state-of-the-art 40-megawatt (MW) biomass-fired power cogeneration facility amounting to P2 billion (spread over three years), which the company plans to invest in,” URC’s report read.

The company had said in April last year that it would build an ethanol plant in Negros Oriental in response to market demand for ethanol and to reduce sugar operation costs.

In November, the company’s board approved changes to the firm’s incorporation articles to include, for the first time, power generation, in line with initial plans to put up the 40-MW biomass plant at one of its sugar mills. URC said the plant will be located at the site of the sugar mill of its subsidiary, Southern Negros Development Corp., in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental and should be finished by 2015.
