that is the one problem with these is that the urban realm around them is absolutely awful, particularly Neasden, it takes some hardened determination to find it.

Hindu temples are rarely built in the middle of an existing city. The location has more to do with the "holiness" of the spot than centrality or ease of access. They are built for lone pilgrims rather than large gatherings.

By contrast, mosques, churches etc. always look for central locations so that believers can congregate with ease on a regular basis.

Now I have no idea why that particular spot in Neasden is holy. Here in India there are thousands of places associated with mythological tales and legends etc. where temples have been built.
But I guess that since this is a modern temple, they adopted the utilitarian idea of a temple (we need a place to congregate, hold community events etc) and that was the justification.
