Ok, here we go.
It's time I follow SSC, then I got registered less than 2 months ago.
It's much more time I 'play' with 3d modeling softwares (it's actually not my job), it was Gmax years ago, then I switched to 3ds Max.
In my past there're years usefully spent making commercial add-on for games (airport sceneries for Flight Simulator under the 'Simflyers' brand, maybe someone can even remember it).
I left that job but I've never been able to 'get rid' of 3d modeling, and sometimes I get on it again. No brand new creations, I love to make models of existing things, so I decided to start with the most fascinating and challenging building actually under construction (IMHO at least)...... the Shanghai Tower.

The glass diffuse color is full gray for itself, the displayed color depends from the background sky which is reflected into the glass.
Maybe it looks too much blue (respect to the real thing) just because it's really rare to see such a bright blue sky in Shanghai........
Should be enough to reduce saturation in the background image (sky), I'll have some test with the next renderings.

but i wonder, where do you take all the measurements, data etc. from? i've tried to make a model of Princess Tower once, but got stuck on the lack of information..

The most a building is famous, the most stuff can be found online about it.
For instance, I have plans for a Wuhan Center model also, but I'm afraid I'll have to give up because it's not famous enough (read: there's not enough documentation about it).
I'm also working at a WTC1 model (the old one) just because I found on the internet the full set of Yamasaki's plans (floor by floor) and sections.
About this ST model, I've found online the 80% of the stuff I needed, plus some little help by people who looked well-documented about it (just a .pdf document, but including all that's needed). About pics ....... nowhere else than SSC, of course

Looking forward to see it all cladded... Will you model the interior as well? by the renderings...

Shanghai Tower is by far one of my favorites skyscrapers.

Basically it's an exterior/structural model only, not an interior one.
Leaving aside the fact that a NASA computer would be needed to endure the fearful amount of polygons involved, if for 'interior' you mean a simplified representation of the vertical transportation system inside the core, then the answer is 'yes', I'm planning to do something like that.
Otherwise the answer will be: "I don't own a NASA computer"..... I'm even afraid my poor pc won't endure not even internal stairs.

Surely i wasn't talk about all those polygons that would be almost impossible... I was really talking about that "simplified" representation, of the lobby and so.

Let's put it this way ..... I have another model (old WTC1 in NYC), 2/3 completed, it's about 300.000 polys but the frames are very low already, because I've likely 'exaggerated' with animations.
With ST I'm actually at 280.000 polys without animations, and it's running smoothly ...... There's some hope it could work fine until its completion, allowing me to add the details I've planned.

Hope to see more updates soon.

Actually at level 101 (470m) with both core and floors, cladding still at level 38.
I'll post some update later tonight
