I Love that future massing. I just wish that there were more towers in this area to help with the expensive housing problem! I guess we'd need more transport links though if that were to happen!

Maybe something to do with London city airport. Any way 109m is still very tall.

You think they'd have edited out the smashed up lamp post in that picture

Well, that might be different then. Happen to know if that's an old historical name - strikes me as improbable - or recently coined (no pun)?

The docks in London were frequently named after the places where merchant ships came from, or after the cargo that was unloaded there. Hence; West India Quay is named after the West Indies, Wood Wharf is named so because it is where timber was unloaded, Baltic Quay is named so because ships from the Baltic docked there ect.

And the opposite, in recent times, for example Virginia Quay in East India so named because it was where the first ships left to establish the first English colony in Virginia in 1607.

Apart from the misplaced currency, I guess it's the word 'bay' that makes it unlikely.

I would hazard a guess that the “Dollar” to which its name refers is in fact the Spanish Dollar rather than the American. Thus it is likely where Spanish ships docked. Also artificial bays are not uncommon. All they really need is a breakwater and a U shape. Dollar Bay certainly has that U shape (albeit rectangular), and the water in the docks is certainly very calm.

You may be right... a cursory search on the net didn't throw up too much information.

I love the density and height of the above future proposal at CW...I only wish that the new towers will be innovative and not just bland steel and glass blocks as seems to be the case....I think the docs should have some texture too...ie geezers or something, the water in the doc looks lifeless IMO

It's fine but the initial design (cobra) was a lot better imo...
