In Europe definitely. In most of Asia you can have a good meal for a few EUR even in expensive cities like HK or Singapore.

Honestly a closed kitchen is only useful for those who host formal occasions or dinners, especially if you have a maid doing the cooking. My parents' house is quite old, and beneath their dining room table there's an ancient buzzer mechanism that once upon a time would be used for ringing the waitress; I believe this is quite common in old European manors and villas.

I am not a fan of take-aways at all. The food gets spoiled so much in both taste and texture ..... except a GOOD ITALIAN pizza. That, just like wine, it gets better with age (or getting cold)

It's the Cantonese style probably

However in a sit-in restaurant, while the concept of the open kitchen might seams nice and trendy, still the smell would interfere with your dining experience, so a Glass partition would be a good compromise.

For €8.500 total I think can do better, or at least get me something that doesn't look like it came standard.
I kept mine, but with some modifications, like a black granite plate for example.

I have an ensuite living room. The ensuite is where the dining area and the kitchen is. I really like this kind of lay-out.

I can draw a picture for you. I don't have an official floorplan. It has however two living rooms, one of which has the kitchen and the dining area and then there are three bedrooms (all rather small). And then there is the bathroom and a seperate toiletroom. On top of that I have a balcony on the backside of my apartment.

based on your description, you have quite a big apartment.. if i have 2 living rooms, i wouldn't mind having an open kitchen in one then save the other for a more formal venue for my guests, the only drawback of an open kitchen for me is the smell, otherwise, it looks good..

separate room, I don't mind living/dinning room combined though. But not all 3 into 1, that's just an excuse to be cheap.

I agree with the idea of an open kitchen for those who cook for themselves and singles in general. However, in case of a family it could be better to have a separate spot for the kitchen, but the living and dinning room can be kept together.

My answer is kind of in between. I prefer my kitchen to be a separate room but open to the living room.

Separate, open kitchens is just a cheap solution to avoid walls.

Separate kitchen because if it's mess in kitchen - it's mess in whole apartment.

We wanted our kitchen, dining room and living rooms all combined for ease of access, less walls and crap to manoeuvre, you can talk to some one in the lounge from the kitchen, keep an eye on any kids (whether they're in the lounge, kids room, pool, dining room), etc etc. There are many benefits to an open kitchen/dining/lounge, and it isn't the cost.. believe me

Kitchen, dining and lounge rooms from the hallway to the kids play room

The kitchen, dining room and deck from the capsule hall

Deck, BBQ area, dining and kitchen from the backyard.

Nice. Without walls betweem these spaces, it looks more open and bigger.
